BAGHDAD — Two Coalition representatives held a press conference at the Combined Press Information Center Wednesday.

U.S. Army Lt. Gen. James Dubik, commanding general, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq and U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Kevin J. Bergner, Multi-National Force-Iraq spokesman talked about recent events in Iraq and the road ahead.

Bergner opened the conference with an update on several Iranian citizens detained near the Abu Nuwas market in Baghdad Tuesday.  They were observed possessing weapons and none had authorization to be armed.

“Those individuals were released early this morning after the Coalition had an opportunity to determine the circumstances that were taking place,” Bergner said.

Bergner also mentioned progress around Iraq. Operations in Tarmiyah resulted in the death of Abu Ibrahim, an al-Qaeda in Iraq leader who oversaw terrorists’ operations in the northern belts of Baghdad.  He died after he grabbed a Coalition Soldier and attempted to detonate a suicide vest. Bergner said Ibrahim was an al-Qaeda emir for Tarmiyah who coordinated VBIED attacks in Baghdad and also led al-Qaeda in Iraq operations in the Taji area.

“He kidnapped and murdered Iraqis including a nine-year-old girl to intimidate local citizens,” Bergner said, noting that Ibrahim’s group is likely responsible for the April 12th bombing of the Sarafiya bridge in Baghdad.

“This operation is just another example of the importance of operating simultaneously against the networks in Baghdad and the belts outside the city where terrorists like this are positioning themselves,” Bergner said.

Bergner introduced Dubik, noting his achievements as commander for I-Corps and the 25th Infantry Division.  Dubik took command of the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq in June, where he oversees the Coalition's assistance to the Iraqi government in developing, organizing, training, equipping, and substantiating Iraqi Security Forces.

“There is no one better prepared to assist the Iraqi security forces to transform, to grow in capacity, and to continuously adapt to the new realities here on the ground,” Bergner said.

Dubik said his role in the war effort focuses less on fighting forces and more on “ministerial capacity.”

“That is the ability to raise, to equip, to train and sustain, to provide bases and to provide adequate funding for the security forces over the long term,” Dubik said.

Dubik said there has been progress and challenges on this front.  From 2005 to 2006, the ministries of defense and interior spent more than $2.5 billion more on defense of Iraq than the year before.  There was another $2 billion increase in 2006.  The ministries continue to deal with many challenges, but Dubik said they, along with Coalition forces, will keep pushing on.

“These are all very hard problems.  No doubt about it,” he said.  “But as my boss had said sometime ago, ‘hard doesn't make it hopeless it just makes it hard.’”

(Story by U.S. Army Sgt. Matthew McLaughlin, Combined Press Information Center)

In other developments throughout Iraq:

•           Iraqi Police received tips from a local citizen which thwarted insurgent efforts to detonate two car bombs targeting security forces and innocent citizens in Kirkuk city, Sunday.

•           Soldiers from the Multi-National Division-Baghdad and Iraqi Security Forces captured four suspected insurgents and recovered a small weapons cache during a security operation in the Karadah District of eastern Baghdad Tuesday.

Ann Coulter: Dems want to relive their "glory years"

Here we go again, folks. Ann Coulter calls the shots like she sees them. By far, I believe that ANN is the best political referee going.

In today's column, Ann Coulter writes (that) the Dems' desire for a return of the "glory years" with former Attorney General Janet Reno. "There is reason to believe Reno is precisely the sort of attorney general that Hillary would nominate, since Reno was widely assumed to be Hillary's pick at the time," she writes. "As ABC News' Chris Bury reported the day Reno was confirmed: 'The search for an attorney general exemplifies Hillary Clinton's circle of influence and its clout. ... The attorney general-designate, Janet Reno, came to the president's attention through Hillary Clinton's brother, Hugh Rodham.'"

Coulter offers a simple tabulation of the accomplishments of Reno and former Attorneys General Alberto Gonzeles and John Ashcroft.

  • Civilians killed by Ashcroft: 0;
  • Civilians killed by Gonzales: 0;
  • Civilians killed by Reno: 80.

A Fatwa Against Violence Issued by Senior Iraqi Sunni and Shia Clerics

As heard on Dennis Prager's radio show this morning, a Fatwa against violence was issued by top Iraqi Sunni and Shia clerics who met in Cairo on August 24th.  According to Robert C. McFarlane, who was in attendance, the clerics formally agreed to "end terrorist violence, and to disband militia activity in order to build a civilized country and work within the framework of law."

The participants of the historical conference included, Sheikh Ahmed al Kubaisi, the senior Sunni religious authority in Iraq.  McFarlane said that Sheikh Kubaisi included the Fatwa in his Friday sermons.

I am looking on this  latest announcement wondering if it is really a breakthrough or more empty promises from the religion of peace.  Let us hope that Sheikh Kubaisi and the other Sunni and Shia clerics can have an impact on the violence in Iraq.

What make me concerned it that the lame stream media has not reported this potentially historical breakthrough.  If news does not cast Iraq (and President Bush) in a bad light, the lame steam media appears unwilling to report.

The lame stream media should report all the news!  Even, if they (yellow dog journalists and their editors) do not like what it says.  Have a good day America.

"I Want My County Back!" Rick Roberts, KFMB San Diego

I want my country back!!”-
By Rick Roberts - 760 KFMB AM

We must secure our borders because this country is worth securing. We are worth protecting. I want America to be America. All of those things that made her great, must be returned to the forefront. If you want to come here, we welcome you with open arms. Just abide by our laws. Don’t snub your nose at our laws, take advantage of our opportunities, and then cling to the constitution. Help me say it loud and clear, “Hell no! You can’t have our country.”

This country is not for sale. I should know. I’m one of the owners. You can’t sell it without my permission.

I want my country back!

Damascus airport called Al Qaeda hub

Damascus airport called Al Qaeda hub

WASHINGTON — Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut, has been recruiting support for legislation that would sanction Damascus International Airport.

Lieberman said the airport has become the major conduit for Al Qaeda fighters to Iraq as well as Iranian weapons shipments to Lebanon. He based his assertion on briefings from the U.S. military.

On Thursday, the Bush administration released an unclassified version of a national intelligence estimate that supported Lieberman's allegations against Syria. But the report said Damascus, despite its increase in support for militias in Iraq, has cracked down on Al Qaeda in wake of a determination that the Islamic movement threatens Syrian national security.

Lieberman said U.S. intelligence has determined that the lion's share of Sunni volunteers fly into Damascus International Airport and then proceed overland to Iraq. He said this makes Damascus the hub of Al Qaeda travel in the Middle East.

Roberts interviews San Diego Mayor Sanders about Sanctuary Cities

RICK TALKS TO MAYOR JERRY SANDERS ABOUT SANCTUARY CITIES

By Rick Roberts 760 KFMB AM Radio Host

DISCLAIMER: The different points of views on the Rick Roberts are not supported nor do they reflect the views and beliefs of The Bosun Locker or any entity affiliated with the Bos’un

This morning we spoke to Mayor Jerry Sanders. The topic was San Diego as a sanctuary city. For as much as I like Mayor Sanders personally, I’ll admit… I was disappointed.

Mayor Sanders was NOT informed on federal regulation 287 (g).

Mayor Sanders waffled on the migrant camp policy in 6.18. When I asked him if migrant camps were full of illegal aliens, he at first said yes… But later said no.

He admitted that they cannot treat all persons the same for traffic violations, (You’ve gotta love that illegal alien get out of jail free card!!)

To back his statements on air, the Mayor Will not declare in a proclamation that we are NOT a sanctuary city.

The Mayor states that the City of San Diego is not a sanctuary city, nor does it have sanctuary city policies. When I asked for his own definition of a sanctuary city, Sanders said that his definition is when the city officially declares itself to be one, and they tell their police officers not to interact with illegal immigrants. (That’s peculiar… Because minus the ‘official’ part, that IS what a “don’t ask, don’t tell” sanctuary city is, and that DOES sound a lot like OUR city’s policy!)

But the Mayor cannot decipher any difference between the City of San Diego’s policies and the policies of ‘official’ sanctuary cities.

Local government CAN do something about immigration… for the good, whether it be in Escondido standing against illegal alien renters, Nashville has enforcing the 287 (g) program, or police in Newark, NJ teaming up with feds… But local government can also use their power for the worst. Mayor Inzunza made National City an official sanctuary city just last year…

The disappointment for the City of San Diego is that as a result of the Mayor and City Council ignoring it and/or doing nothing about the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, we’re nothing more than a large version of National City.

Making a city an ‘official’ sanctuary city for illegal aliens is the same as LEAVING it an ‘unofficial’ sanctuary.

YOU CAN LISTEN TO MY FULL INTERVIEW WITH MAYOR SANDERS BY CLICKING HERE.

________________________________________________________

And…

For those of you who AREN’T with local government, the following is what our elected officials should know about:

What is the 287 (g) Program?
• The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act (IIAIRA) of September 30, 1996, amended the Immigration and Nationality Act by adding 287 (g), a program that authorizes the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to enter into a written Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with state and local law enforcement to authorize qualified personnel to perform certain acts of an Immigration Officer.

What is the program designed to do?
• According to representatives from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal agency within DHS that is charged with implementation of the program, 287 (g) is designed to enable state and local law enforcement personnel, in the course of their normal duties, to question and detain individuals for potential removal from the United States if these individuals are identified as criminal illegal aliens – individuals who pose a significant threat to national security and public safety.

Doesn’t the City’s Police Department already have that authority?
• Police may currently arrest and detain criminal illegal aliens but must rely on ICE agents to process the paperwork necessary to start the deportation process. 287 (g) empowers participating state and local agencies to process these individuals directly and to ensure that they are entered into the ICE system for potential deportation.

What is the program not designed to do?
• The 287 (g) program is not designed for rounding up illegal aliens in random street operations. It is not designed to impact issues such as excessive occupancy and day worker activities. In outlining the program, ICE representatives have repeatedly emphasized that it is designed to identify the “worst of the worst” for potential deportation; any effort to expand the program to arrest all illegal aliens would rapidly overwhelm, and ultimately shut down, the system. What is the process by which a local agency enters into the program? A letter of interest is submitted by a local or state agency’s top law enforcement and administrative officials to ICE. If approved, ICE and the local or state agency enter into a Memorandum of Agreement that authorizes qualified personnel to participate in the program.

Mayor Sanders also faxed the Congressional Research Service on August 20th, demanding that San Diego be taken off the report’s list.

The following is what Mayor Jerry Sanders wrote to the director of the Congressional Research Service, Daniel Mulhollan:

“Dear Director Mulhollan:

It has come to my attention that the latest Congressional Research Service annual report has concluded that the City of San Diego has “sanctuary policies” or “non-cooperation policies” in place with respect to enforcing immigration laws. I vehemently disagree with your conclusion that any San Diego city policy, including the San Diego Police Department policy concerning undocumented persons, is either a “sanctuary” or “non-cooperation” policy and would respectfully request that you remove the City of San Diego from your list of such cities.

The San Diego Police Department’s policy concerning “Adult Undocumented Persons” is found in SDPD policy 6.18. The policy is very clear that the SDPD’s primary responsibility is to enforce all state and local laws. However, if during the investigation of a state or local crime, an arrested subject is determined to be illegally in the United States, Department Policy 6.18 specifically states that a hold for Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “shall be placed on the prisoner.” Even if no arrest occurs, but an undocumented person is detained due to a “reasonable suspicion” that criminal activity exists, officers are still authorized to notify ICE or the Border Patrol. It is unclear to me what criteria the CRS used to make a determination that the City of San Diego has “sanctuary policies.”

As you are aware, immigration violations are governed almost exclusively by federal law, specifically the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Currently, the INA provides limited avenues for state and local enforcement of its provisions. As your report notes, local governments have traditionally only been permitted to directly enforce criminal provisions. You further state in your report that “the enforcement of the civil provisions, which includes apprehension and removal of deportable aliens, as strictly been viewed as a federal responsibility, with states playing an incidental role.” To suggest that San Diego is a “sanctuary city” simply because the City of San Diego DOES NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO PERFORM THE ENFORCEMENT FUNCTION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT with respect to immigration violations is irresponsible and insulting. In contrast to what many other cities have done, San Diego has never held itself out as a sanctuary city. The City of San Diego respect and actively enforces all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Your characterization of San Diego as a city with “sanctuary policies” is flawed and inaccurate.

Therefore, I formally request that your remove San Diego from any list that designates us as either a “sanctuary city” or as a city with “sanctuary policies” in place. Also, it would be helpful if you could please provide us with a copy of any analysis that went into designating San Diego as a city with “sanctuary policies” for our review.

Thank you for your prompt attention in this matter.

Sincerely,

Jerry Sanders
Mayor
City of San Diego”

San Diego Police Department Order 6.18 details

SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPT. ORDER NUMBER 6.18 DETAILS
By Rick Roberts 760 KFMB AM Radio Host

DISCLAIMER: The different points of views on the Rick Roberts are not supported nor do they reflect the views and beliefs of The Bosun Locker or any entity affiliated with the Bos'un.

Back in May, in response to the issue of illegal immigration, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders said, “It’s going to be a political solution that solves this. We’re not going to stop people who want a better life from coming over here.”

Well, that’s comforting. Meanwhile, we are still waiting for Mayor Sanders to come on our show. As of Friday morning, we have not received a concrete answer.

San Diego Police Department Policy Statement
ALL PERSONNEL
UNDOCUMENTED PERSONS
FIELD OPERATIONS
D.P.6.18 12/20/87 3.8

I. BACKGROUND

This Department Procedure is intended to clarify the Police Department’s
policy with respect to the handling of undocumented persons.

The San Diego Police Department recognizes and values the diversity of
the community it serves. The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safety
and well being of all persons, regardless of their immigration status. The
primary responsibility for the enforcement of Federal immigration laws
rests with the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Border
Patrol. Although State and local peace officers have the authority to assist
in enforcing immigration laws, it is the policy of the San Diego Police
Department that officers shall not make an effort to look for violations of
immigration laws.

San Diego Police personnel will focus on detecting and apprehending
individuals involved in criminal activity.

II. ADULT UNDOCUMENTED PERSONS

A. San Diego Police officers are responsible for the enforcement of all
laws, Federal, State and local, and the safety and protection of all persons.
Therefore, officers have a duty to contact any person(s) when there is a
reasonable suspicion to believe they are involved in criminal activity.
(Refer to SDPD Procedure 4.1.)

B. If upon investigation “probable cause” to arrest exists, unrelated to the
person’s immigration status, officers may arrest for the offense.

1. If the subject is booked in the City or County jail and determined to be
illegally in the United States, a hold for INS/Border Patrol shall be placed
on the prisoner.

a. Immigration documents identified as evidence in a criminal
investigation will be impounded per Department Procedure 3.2.

b. See Health and Safety Code section 11369 for notification
requirements when the arrest is drug related and the person is suspected to
be undocumented.

C. Officers are authorized to release subject(s) to INS/Border Patrol if
there is no “Probable Cause” to arrest but there is “Reasonable Suspicion”
that criminal activity unrelated to immigration status still exists. After
investigation determines the detainee(s) is/are in violation of 8 United
States Code Section 1304(e) officers are authorized to notify INS/Border
Patrol and release the detainee(s) at the scene of contact, within a
reasonable time. (”Reasonable suspicion” defined in Department
Procedure 4.1.)

1. The duration of the stop or detention prior to the detainee’s release to
INS/Border Patrol shall be in accordance with Department Procedure 4.1,
paragraph 4a, which provides as follows:

A person stopped pursuant to this procedure may be detained at or near
the scene of the stop –for a reasonable time. Officers should detain a
person only for the length of time necessary to obtain or verify the
person’s presence or conduct, or an account of the offense, or otherwise
determine if the person should be arrested or released.

Such factors as remoteness and safety considerations for the person(s)
detained may extend the reasonable time of detention prior to INS/Border
Patrol release. However, such detentions should ordinarily be no longer
than twenty (20) minutes.

2. Officers are generally prohibited from transporting detained
undocumented persons to a police facility for the sole purpose of releasing
them to INS/Border Patrol.

3. Undocumented persons may be transported if they voluntarily consent
in order to complete or further an investigation.

D. After investigation if it is determined the person(s) is/are not involved
in criminal activity unrelated to immigration status, the person should be
released, regardless of immigration status.

III. EXCEPTIONS

A. Certain criminal situations, because of their inherent danger to
citizens of the United States and undocumented persons as well, require
immediate action by San Diego Officers. Officers are authorized to detain
and release undocumented persons to INS/Border Patrol when contacted
under the following conditions:

1. Drop House–a house or building being utilized as a transfer/holding
facility for persons engaged in smuggling undocumented persons.

2. Load Vehicles–vehicles engaged in smuggling undocumented persons.

3. Drug House–house or building being used to facilitate narcotics
trafficking.

IV. SITUATIONS WHERE BORDER PATROL INVOLVEMENT IS
PROHIBITED

A. Officers are prohibited from releasing undocumented persons to
INS/Border Patrol under the following conditions:

1. They are victims or witnesses of a crime, unless a determination has
been made by investigators to hold them as material witnesses.

2. When contacted during family disturbances.

3. Generally, during the enforcement of minor traffic offenses
(interactions and nonbookable misdemeanors).

4. When the person(s) are seeking medical treatment.

V. MIGRANT CAMPS

A. The majority of residents living in migrant camps work in the
surrounding area and are in this country legally. Officers are generally
prohibited from detaining undocumented persons in this setting for
INS/Border Patrol unless there is probable cause to arrest for a crime not
related to immigration violations. If probable cause to arrest exists,
officers will follow the procedures laid out in this policy.

VI. DOCUMENTATION OF DETENTIONS

A. All undocumented persons who are arrested will be booked or cited
and appropriate reports prepared. When undocumented persons are
detained and released to INS/Border Patrol, officers will prepare a
detention report in every case.

1. Detention reports involving undocumented persons must list in detail
the reasons for the detention, including all facts that led to the “reasonable
suspicion” that the subject was involved in criminal activity unrelated to
immigration status.

2. In the event officers locate a drop house, load car or drug house
containing multiple undocumented persons, they will document the event
by preparing an ARJIS-8 on each subject and an ARJIS-9 detailing the
circumstances of detention.

3. The name(s) and identification number(s) of the agent(s) who take
custody of the detainees will be included in the appropriate
(ARJIS-8/ARJIS-9) report(s).

VII. ASSISTANCE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

A. Officers are directed to provide necessary assistance to all law
enforcement agencies including the United States Border Patrol when
requested to do so.

B. An emergency statute, California Government Code Section
55069.75, taking affect on October 4, 1993, was enacted to guarantee
“continued federal support for local enforcement activities.” It provides as
follows:

“. . . no local law shall prohibit a peace officer or custodial officer from
identifying and reporting to the United States Immigration and
Naturalization Service any person, pursuant to federal law or regulation, to
whom both of the following apply:

(a) The person was arrested and booked, based upon the arresting
officer’s probable cause to believe that the person arrested had committed
a felony.

(b) After the arrest and booking in subdivision (a), the officer reasonably
suspects that the person arrested has violated the civil provisions of the
Federal immigration laws.”

VIII. UNDOCUMENTED JUVENILES

A. 300 W&I Dependent Children

1. Under 13 years of age

Children in this category will be transported to Hillcrest Receiving
Home if a parent or guardian cannot be contacted. Hillcrest will determine
the status and disposition of the child.

2. Thirteen years of age or older

If the juvenile’s parent or guardian can be located, the juvenile will be
released to them regardless of the family’s immigration status.

3. If the juvenile’s parent or guardian cannot be contacted, the juvenile
will be released to Border Patrol. Transportation to an INS/U.S. Border
Patrol facility is authorized for this purpose.

4. An ARJIS-9 report will be submitted detailing the circumstances of
the detention and the disposition of the juvenile.

B. 601 W&I Status Offenses (i.e., curfew, truants and runaways)

1. Under 13 years of age

If the parents reside in a foreign country, the juvenile will be transported
to Hillcrest Receiving Home.

2. Thirteen years of age or older

It is incumbent upon the Police Department to return juveniles without
parental supervision to their parents, guardians or school officials. If the
parents or guardians are in the United States and can be contacted, the
juvenile will be released to them.

If the juvenile’s parent or guardian cannot be contacted, the juvenile will
be released to Border Patrol. Officers are authorized to transport the
juvenile when Border Patrol is unable to respond or there would be an
excessive time delay.

3. A juvenile contact report (ARJIS-8) will be completed detailing the
circumstances of the detention.

C. 602 W&I Minor Offenses

1. Under 13 years of age

If the parent or guardian cannot be contacted, a court order is required
before Juvenile Hall will accept them. In these cases, personnel at Juvenile
Hall will be responsible for obtaining the court order. Officers will stand
by until a disposition is reached by Juvenile Hall.

In cases where a court order is not issued, the arresting officer should
contact the Division’s Juvenile Detective (day or night). The Juvenile
Detective, with the assistance of the Juvenile District Attorney, will
coordinate the placement of the juvenile in Juvenile Hall or Hillcrest
Receiving Home.

2. Thirteen years of age or older

If a juvenile is arrested and the parents or guardian cannot be contacted,
the juvenile will be placed in Juvenile Hall.

3. A Juvenile Contact Report (ARJIS-8) will be completed detailing the
circumstances of the arrest.

D. 602 W&I Serious Offenses

1. Juveniles arrested for serious and/or violent crimes shall be placed in
Juvenile Hall.

2. Officers shall photograph and fingerprint the juvenile taken into
custody. The photograph and fingerprints should be attached to the
investigator’s copy of the juvenile contact report.

3. All arrests of undocumented juveniles shall be documented on a
juvenile contact report (ARJIS-8).

Will Hezbollah strike in the US of A

Back in 2006, I asked the question; Will Hezbollah strike in the US??

According to a Reuters report dated July 18th 2006, Iran’s Hezbollah party, which has claimed links to Hezbollah in Lebanese, promised that it stood ready to attack Israeli and U.S. interests worldwide.  At about the same time, also from Reuters, the FBI was busy trying to ferret out possible Hezbollah agents in the United States amid concerns that rising U.S.-Iranian tensions at the time might trigger attacks on American soil.

American law enforcement officials were concerned the Lebanon-based Hezbollah, which has so far focused on fund-raising and other support activities inside the United States, could turn to violence in solidarity with Iran.

Much to my supprise, a name resurfaced about the same time in our news media but did not get much attention: Imad Fayez Mugniyah (one of the leaders of Hezbollah security organization).  The lame stream press has a very short memory and did not connect the name with the man.

Mugniyah has been active on the terrorism circuit for over 20 years.

According to Laura Mansfield,  ( Laura Mansfield.com )

there appears to be striking similarities between Mugniyah’s brand of terrorism for the past 20 years and the practices of the present-day terrorists in Iraq.

Mugniyah allegedly has been tied to kidnappings and bombings throughout the world over the past two decades.  Please note that Mugniyah was also linked to terrorism in South America in 1992 and 1994.

▪ April 18, 1983 bombing of the United States embassy in Beirut, which killed 63 people including 17 Americans

▪ October 23, 1983 simultaneous truck bombings against the French paratroopers and US Marine killing 58 French soldiers and 241 Marines.

▪ September 20, 1984, he attacked the US embassy annex building.

▪ Linked to the numerous kidnappings of Westerners in Beirut through the 1980s – some were killed, some by beheading, and a few were eventually released

▪ March 17, 1992 bombings of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires Argentina, which killed 29

▪ July 1994 bombing of the AMIA cultural building in in Buenos Aires Argentina, killing 86 people

▪ Orchestrated the 2000 abductions of three Israeli soldiers in the southern part of Lebanon

▪ Abduction of Israeli Colonel Elchanan Tenenbaum. Source: Laura Mansfield

In 2002, Jeffrey Goldberg, reporter-at-large for The New Yorker magazine did an interesting 2- part article, “IN THE PARTY OF GOD” that included Hezbollah operations in South America and the United States:

Here is an excerpt from Part 2 of Goldberg’s article:

“Roughly two hundred thousand people live in the Ciudad del Este region, including a substantial minority of Arab Muslims; in the Triple Frontier zone, there may be as many as thirty thousand. According to intelligence officials in the region and in Washington, this Muslim community has in its midst a hard core of terrorists, many of them associated with Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite group backed by the Iranian government; some with Hamas, the Palestinian fundamentalist group; and some with Al Qaeda. It is, over all, a community under the influence of extreme Islamic beliefs; intelligence officials told me that some of the Triple Frontier Arabs held celebrations on September 11th of last year and also on the anniversary this year. These officials said that Hezbollah runs weekend training camps on farms cut out of the rain forest of the Triple Frontier. In at least one of these camps, in the remote jungle terrain near Foz do Iguaçu, young adults get weapons training and children are indoctrinated in Hezbollah ideology—a mixture of anti-American and anti-Jewish views inspired by Ayatollah Khomeini.

In the Triple Frontier, Hezbollah raises money from legitimate businesses but, more frequently, from illicit activities, ranging from drug smuggling to the pirating of compact disks. Unlike the other radical Islamic groups in the Triple Frontier, Hezbollah, it is said, has the capability to commit acts of terror.”

Part 2 of the series takes place in South America, not, the Middle East. It seems to me that the Atlantic Ocean offers little protection from the spread of terrorism as we witnessed first hand on September 11, 2001, in New York City.

We have been very lucky for the past six years.  However, the powder keg of the middle east and the hate of the Islamic Jihadi may have broader ramifications. Does Hezbollah have the ability to strike here?  Will it striker here?

Be ever vigilant.

Jordan Parliamentary Speaker: Iran's Intervention in Iraq is Historical

No. 1696

Jordanian Parliamentary Speaker: Iran's Intervention in Iraq - Product of Historical Conflict Between Arabs and Persians

To view this Special Dispatch in HTML, visit: Jordanian Parliamentary Speaker: Iran's Intervention in Iraq – Product of Historical Conflict Between Arabs and Persians.

In a meeting with Kuwaiti journalists, Jordanian Parliamentary Speaker 'Abd Al-Hadi Al-Majali stated that Iran's intervention in Iraq has nothing to do with either religion or with the Sunni-Shi'ite conflict, but that it was nationalistically motivated and part of an historical conflict between the Arabs and the Persians.

This statement reflects a shift from Jordan's previous view of Iran's intervention in Iraq as part of the Sunni-Shi'ite conflict. In the past, Jordan's King Abdullah had warned of the danger posed by the "Shi'ite crescent,"(1) estimating that "the main problem would center around Iraq, where a terrible inter-Islamic conflict would erupt between the Sunnis and the Shi'ites."(2)

This new Jordanian approach is in line with the Saudi position. Although Saudi Arabia considers the Iran-Iraq confrontation to be a sectarian clash between the Sunnis and the Shi'ites, it has been careful not to refer to it as such publicly, phrasing its harsh criticism of Iran in nationalist, rather than sectarian/religious, terms. Thus, for example, earlier this year, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal called on Iran "not to interfere in Arab affairs."(3)

The following are excerpts from Al-Majali's statements, as published in the Kuwaiti daily Al-Rai.

"...[Iran is] harboring plans to significantly weaken the [Arab] identity. What is happening in Iraq [today] has nothing to do with either the Sunnis or the Shi'ites. Iran's intervention in Iraq is for nationalist reasons, and not in order to support the Shi'ites, as some claim. Hence I believe that Arab identity in Iraq is under threat.

"Iran's current actions are the product of a historical conflict between the Arabs and the Persians. This conflict was renewed with great force during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, whose grounds were nationalist, rather than religious. Indeed, during that war, Iran murdered hundreds of thousands of Shi'ites and their families, a fact that stresses the national, rather than sectarian, aspect of the conflict. Similarly, what is going on in Iraq today is unrelated to religion..."

According to Al-Majali, there is a need for a unified Arab Islamic framework to preserve the Arab identity. He also stressed that Iran's ability to eradicate the Arab identity should not be underestimated.

As for the Iran-Hizbullah relationship, Al-Majali contended that Hizbullah was the foremost stronghold of Iran and its policy in the region, and that Iran was the one supplying it with money and weapons. The motive for this, he said, is that Hizbullah is Iran's tool for attaining its interests, and not – as Iran and Nasrallah claim – for liberating Palestine.

Al-Majali went on to state that the conflict between Lebanon and Israel had come to an end, since Israel had conclusively and officially withdrawn from all Lebanese territories, in accordance with the international resolutions. As concerns the Shab'a Farms, he stated that Israel seized them not from Lebanon but from Syria... Al-Majali further stated that he did not believe that Hizbullah would relinquish its military character even if the Shab'a Farms were liberated.(4)

Ann Coulter: 1 down, 11,999,999 to go

"So far, the only thing Elvira Arellano has contributed to America is one illegitimate child" -- so writes Ann Coulter in her new column today.

Coulter lists other illegal aliens who also deserve deportation, all of whom were charged or convicted of heinous crimes ... in the last week.
"For illegal aliens charged with child molestation, I had to limit it to two days last week," writes Coulter.

Coulter also takes aim at Democrats over the illegal alien issue:

"The Democratic Party is in the fight of its life against a conservative demographic trend. Its only hope is to gerrymander America to make the poorest half of Mexico a state. Only a massive influx of criminals, wards of the state and rioters can save them.

"This is why Democrats are obsessed with giving two groups the right to vote: illegal aliens and felons. With Arellano, they get two for the price of one. To liberals, building a wall across the Mexican border is a violation of the Voting Rights Act."

US CENTCOM chief meets Saudi king

Saudi King Abdullah met on Tuesday with the visiting head of the US Central Command, Admiral William Fallon, the official SPA news agency reported.

The United States recently announced it has put together an arms package worth at least 20 billion dollars over 10 years for Saudi Arabia, saying the sale is meant to defend the kingdom against Iran, which Washington believes is working to acquire nuclear weapons.

Hateful Comments Show Liberal Leftard's Ignorance

Link to Big Dog's Weblog: Hateful Comments Show Liberal Leftard’s Ignorance

Courtesy of Big Dog's Weblog on Aug 18, 2007 in Featured, Political Commentary

I recently wrote about Tony Snow and how he will not stay on as White House Spokesman. Snow has indicated that he can not afford to stay on but that he will stay as long as he can. The reaction from the left was horrific. The comments are all about Snow’s illness (cancer) and how they hope he dies a slow and agonizing death. Before I say that all the comments were like this let me point out that a few of the ones at Huffington’s dive were kind. A few people indicated that they did not like Snow and thought he was a liar but that they want him to recover from his illness and wish no one the misery of cancer or any other illness. These people, unfortunately, are a very small portion of those who actually commented.

One of the things that I found interesting was a comment that showed how ignorant people on the left (they are leftards making the statements) about the government and what benefits they receive. Someone wrote suggesting that Snow had some great health insurance because he works for the government.

Absolutely, he’ll have excellent health care as provided to federal employees! Wish that same federally sponsored health care that the Congress and White House personnel get applied across the country to all Americans! Huffpo comments

I don’t know where these idiots get the idea that federal employees have some mystical health insurance and that it is better than everyone else’s. I am not naive enough to believe that Congress is not a privileged club where perks run like water. They cry about money while building themselves great gyms and all kinds of other things but one thing I am sure of and that is they have the same health care options and pay like amounts for their coverage as employees of many private corporations. The Federal Employee Health Benefits web site shows what plans are offered and how much each plan costs. There are several kinds of insurance carriers that offer different kinds of plans. Of course, since states regulate what insurance companies have to offer, there are different plans for each state.

The leftards who are commenting about Snow are vile and show little compassion for someone with a terrible disease. These are the kind of people who show empathy for terrorists but show absolute mean-spirited hatred for anyone not of their political affiliation. It is ashamed that the liberal philosophy has given us a group of people so spoiled and so self centered that they hope and pray their political opponents die. If we could only get them to show this much passion with regard to the fate of our enemies…

When Bill Clinton needed heart surgery ever blog on the right that I read offered prayers that he would make it OK and that he would regain his health. We hated Clinton as a president but that hatred does not carry on when it comes to his well being. That is what compassionate conservatism is. You never find this with regard to any political politician. Every time Dick Cheney has chest pain or goes to the hospital the leftards start to drool and have a death watch while praying that Cheney dies from the malady.

The only death I want to see on the left is liberalism as a political belief. The people can stay but their beliefs have got to go…

I hope and pray Tony Snow beats his illness just as I do for Elizabeth Edwards. Let the left wing idiots who infest the Kos and Hufpo web sites spew their hatred because it will be their undoing.

John Edwards; A Study in Contrasts

John Edwards; A Study in Contrasts

Edwards woman

John Edwards wants to be the President of the United States. He ran in 2004 and when he did not gain the nomination he ran as Kerry’s running mate and that ticket was soundly defeated. Edwards is an interesting fellow because he says so many things that are not true or that defy logic and he expects people to believe them. I guess the real unfortunate thing is there are actually people in this country who believe what Edwards has to say.

John Edwards talks about how he is for the average guy and he gets $400 haircuts. I could get about 35 haircuts at my barber for that kind of money. He discusses this two Americas theme where the poor are downtrodden by the wealthy on the other side. However, John Edwards has a personal wealth in the millions and he recently had a house built that is large enough to house the poor America he talks about. How can he be a regular guy when he spent more on his house than most people will make in their lifetimes?

Edwards is a sleazy, ambulance chasing lawyer who made juries believe that he spoke to dead children. He made his millions by suing companies and gaining large settlements. His actions (and similar ones by the other sleazy lawyers) are what drive the prices of consumer goods up. This guy is slimy to the nth degree and leads me to ask; “Do we want a guy like this running our country?”

Edwards was recently assailing the right wing media like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh when he made a comment about Ann Coulter. He called Ann Coulter the She Devil. He quickly said that he should not call names and removed that description from his sentence. He then indicated that Coulter had attacked his wife Elizabeth and that She [Ms. Edwards] had stood up to Coulter who was obviously flustered.

This is patently untrue! Coulter was on a show discussing her book when the discussion turned to her use of the word “faggot” when discussing John Edwards. Coulter indicated that the next time she will just say that she hopes Edwards get killed in a terrorist attack (a reference to a similar statement about Dick Cheney that was ignored by the media). Ms, Edwards called in to ask Ann to play nice and stop the name calling. Ann was not flustered though she might have been irritated because more than one person has suggested that the Edwards call was prearranged. I am in the camp that believes it was because immediately after the exchange a plea for money went up at Edwards’ campaign web site. He asked for money and used Ann Coulter and her hate speech as the motive. This guy and his wife are charlatans who will use every sleazy trick to get money and to win the White House. It is interesting that Edwards popped off with the She Devil remark while crying about Coulter calling him a name.

All of this aside, I have one major observation that does not deal with this banter. I do not think Edwards should be in the White House but not because he is sleazy. We have had presidents who were of less than honorable character (like Bill Clinton) so one more would make little difference (and the candidates from both parties have more sleaze than just this guy). I am opposed to John Edwards because he is a pussy who can not fight his own battles and who sends a woman out to do it for him. John Edwards sends his wife out to pick the fights and then they get on their web site and beg for money to beat these awful Republicans. I suppose that the only reason he mentioned Coulter this time is because he is running low on cash.

So here we have a guy who is effeminate and in now way portrays an image of a real man. He has no swagger, no masculinity, no toughness and he sends his wife out to fight for him. Is this the kind of guy we want standing up to China, Russia, Iran or any other nation that would love nothing more than to see the demise of the US? I think not! Imagine if China began saber rattling and it involved a US response. Elizabeth, could you call China and tell them to stop. Get them to pick a fight so we can get the American people on our side by telling them how mean the Chinese are for picking on a woman, especially one with cancer.

So, despite the many contrasts that define John Edwards, the most unpleasant one is the contrast that says he is a man. He looks like a man and I am sure he has an XY chromosome but he acts like a little girl. He is a sissy and we do not need a sissy running this country. Look at that picture and tell me you think “masculine” when you see it.

For what it is worth, Hillary Rodham is more of a man than John Edwards (and we do not need her either).

Joe Scarborough Reveals MSNBC Newsroom Booed Bush Speech

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough revealed Thursday morning that on his first day at MSNBC, on the night of President Bush's 2003 State of the Union address, "people in the newsroom...were booing the President basically from the beginning to the end."

A couple of minutes into his Morning Joe show, Scarborough praised the Executive Editor of the Seattle Times for scolding his staff for applauding Karl Rove's resignation.

Scarborough then recalled: "My first night here at MSNBC was the President's State of the Union address in 2003, and I was shocked because there were actually people in the newsroom that were booing the President basically from the beginning to the end."

In doing so, they were just following the tradition set in 2000 when those at the NBC News flagship were on election night 2000 openly, according the then-General Electric Chairman Jack Welch, "all cheering for Gore." AUDIO&VIDEO See & Hear the Bias - Audio & Video Clip Archive

Mega-terror threats add to market woes

A balloon of no-money-down home loans and easy credit for corporate buyouts, followed by the perfect storm of inflation and declining home values, has set the stage for what economic experts believe could end up a literal "meltdown" in the global economy.  It's the result of a combination of factors, but some warn that as bad as it is - Wall Street has lost about 10 percent of its value in the past few weeks - it would undoubtedly be aggravated by a major terrorist attack, which would create tremors felt by millions.

"We've never had a crisis like this while we're at war," said Craig R. Smith, president of Swiss America Trading, and an expert on financial issues including tangible assets.

The groups accused the NYPD of stereotyping and of contradicting recent federal warnings that the chief terror threat remains foreign.

Michelle Malkin Join fight to stop Sanctaury City Status

August 16th, 2007

Aside from all of you, the great listeners of the Rick Roberts Show, Michelle Malkin, Senator Mark Wyland, and Phil Thalhiemer have joined Rick in stopping the Sanctuary City Status of San Diego.

Let’s be the first Sanctuary City to stop it!

But… Our local officials are doing one of 3 things:
Playing Dumb.
Avoiding us.
Or, they are at least thinking about it.

And for those thinking about coming on our show… Thank you.

For those of you on “vacation” and/or or totally saying NO, that is very bad. Very very bad. You don’t want to be on that list… But a couple of you already are.

And for those of you who are trying to play clueless… you need to read this…

This is for you, COUNCIL PRESIDENT TONY YOUNG OF DISTRICT 4… Or SUPERVISOR BILL HORN OF DISTRICT 5.

YES! We ARE a sanctuary city.

Our city and county law enforcement both have policies of “don’t ask, don’t tell” when it comes to reporting illegal aliens.

Don’t believe me? Just ask a local police officer or border patrol.

Or better yet, just ask Congress: An August 14, 2006 report produced by the Congressional Research Service listed 31 cities and counties that have “don’t ask, don’t tell” sanctuary policies in place. They are:

Anchorage, Alaska

Fairbanks, Alaska

Chandler, Arizona

Fresno, California

Los Angeles, California

SAN DIEGO, California

San Francisco, California

Sonoma County, California

Evanston, Illinois

Cicero, Illinois

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Orleans, Massachusetts

Portland, Maine

Baltimore, Maryland

Takoma Park, Maryland

Ann Arbor, Michigan

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Durham, North Carolina

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Aztec, New Mexico

Rio Arriba County, New Mexico

Sante Fe, New Mexico

New York, New York

Ashland, Oregon

Gaston, Oregon

Marion County, Oregon

Austin, Texas

Houston, Texas

Katy, Texas

Seattle, Washington

Madison, Wisconsin

* Alaska and Oregon both have state-wide policies that forbid state agencies from using resources to enforce federal immigration law. Oregon law, however, does provide an exception to allow law enforcement officers to share information on immigration status with federal authorities with those arrested for criminal offenses.

On The Rick Roberts Show we have had callers report illegals driving cars through houses, drive without the basics of car tags or licenses, drive drunk, crash into property, you name it. And they get away scott free, because our law enforcement’s hands are tied by our city and counties desire to have a sanctuary city.

We are tired of looking the other way at the expense of United States Citizens lives.

Stop it.

Just join our fight. You’ll feel better.

Padilla Convicted of Terrorism Support

NewsMax.com Wires
Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007

MIAMI -- Jose Padilla was convicted of federal terrorism support charges Thursday after being held for 3 1/2 years as an enemy combatant in a case that came to symbolize the Bush administration's zeal to stop homegrown terror.

Padilla, a U.S. citizen from Chicago, was once accused of being part of an al-Qaida plot to detonate a radioactive "dirty bomb" in the U.S., but those allegations were not part of his trial.

Padilla, 36, and his foreign-born co-defendants, Adham Amin Hassoun and Kifah Wael Jayyousi, were convicted by a jury of conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim people overseas, which carries a penalty of life in prison. All three were also convicted of two terrorism material support counts, which carry potential 15-year sentences each.

U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke set a Dec. 5 sentencing date for all three defendants.

Hamas TV: Child Star says ready for martyrdom

Sicko Alert from the loving residents of the Gaza Strip. Very consistent with what Nonie Darwish revealed in her book, 'Now They Call Me Infidel'.

Hamas TV's child star says she's ready for martyrdom

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Saraa Barhoum picked at the buttons on her pink bellbottom jeans as she twisted on a chair inside the bustling new Hamas television headquarters. The afternoon light bounced off the sparkly outlines of butterflies on her frilly top, and a colorful hijab framed her 11-year-old face.

Saraa wants to be a doctor. If she can't, the young star of Hamas television's best-known children's show said, she'd be proud to become a martyr.

Saraa says little Jewish girls should be forced from their homes in Israel so that Palestinians can return to their land.  Link to story

We should study Palestinian history and read a book by Nonie Darwish, 'Now They Call Me Infidel'

As Arab children, we were taught about Jews in schools, at home, in the media, at mosque sermons, and by politicians. No one can escape the overwhelming anti-Semitic propaganda and the venomous hatred that my culture of origin advocated against Jews. In Gaza elementary schools I learned hate, vengeance, and retaliation. Peace was never an option; it was considered a sign of defeat and weakness. Those who wanted peace and compromise were called traitors and cowards. When I asked “Why do we hate Jews?,” the answer was “Aren’t you a Muslim?” We were told “Don't take candy from strangers since it could be a Jew trying to poison you” or that Israeli soldiers would kill pregnant Arab women just for fun, place bets on whether she was carrying a boy or a girl, and cut her open to see who won the bet. My classmates would cry while reciting jihadist poetry daily, wishing to die as martyrs.

Ms. Darwish also said this regarding her memories of Gaza:

I remember going to a Palestinian preschool and kindergarten and the word "Jew" instilled terror and dread into the core of my very being. A Jewish person was portrayed like less than human, a dog, an evil alien from outer space who was about to destroy the world. Jews, they said, had no home because they were cursed by God and the main mission of Islam was to get rid of Jews. As a small child I remember once, at a Palestinian school, asking "why?" The response was that I was a traitor for asking this question and would go to hell, and for the rest of the day the girls in the school did not talk to me. The education was mainly political, teaching kids the hatred of Israel. Arabic poetry was recited daily, with tears in Palestinian children's eyes, on how Palestine was taken from them and how they will retaliate and even die to get it back.

It certainly appears to me that the hate in the Palestinians hearts have been brainwashed since birth.

The Islamic Caliphate may be here before we know it

Courtesy of the BBC

Stadium crowd pushes for Islamist dream

The BBC's Lucy Williamson reports from Indonesia, where tens of thousands of Islamists have gathered to push for the creation of a single state across the Muslim world.

Hizb ut-Tahrir managed to fill the Gelora Bung Karno stadium

The dull roars of a football match, the twanging music of a youth group concert - from a distance it is not always easy to tell an Islamic conference from a holiday crowd.

Inside Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno stadium the clues get easier. There are about 100,000 people inside, and everyone is in Islamic dress.

The women's section - by far the biggest - is a pitter-patter of ice-cream colours. On their parasols, one word is printed over and over again: Khilafah, caliphate. This is the reason why people have come here. To show their support for a single, unified, Islamic state.

Grooming of white girls for sex

Courtesy of  Anna Venger.

Excerpts from "Grooming of white girls for sex is exposed as two Asian men jailed":

A hidden world in which Asian men “groom” young white girls for sex has been exposed with the jailing yesterday of two men for child-abuse offences
Zulfqar Hussain, 46, and Qaiser Naveed, 32, from east Lancashire, were each jailed for five years and eight months after exploiting two girls aged under 16 by plying them with alcohol and drugs before having sex with them
Both men pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to abduction, sexual activity with a child and the supply of a controlled drug...
The trial came amid growing concern at the attitudes of some Asian men towards white girls which campaigners for women claim few people wish to address.
Parents have complained that in parts of the country with large Asian communities white girls as young as 12 are being targeted for sex by older Asian men yet the authorities are unwilling to act because of fears of being labelled racist....
Although campaigners claim that hundreds of young girls are already being passed around men within the Asian community for sex, she said that attempts to raise the problem with community leaders had met with little success, with most of them being in a state of denial about it...
"Asians cannot go to Asian girls because it would be a terrible breach of the honour of the community and their family to have sex with an Asian girl before marriage.”

Apparently, the police aren't the only ones afraid of being labeled racist. The Times Online is too since the use the term "Asian" instead of Muslim or Pakistani. Several commenters were incensed about the term, and some Asians and British complained that the paper was afraid of insulting Muslims but not afraid to insult Asians in general. What a surprise.

Why do European nations fear insulting immigrants more than they fear harm to their own women and children?

How politically correct of the British for not mentioning "muslim or Pakistani." I know that a good muslim would not put up with this type of thing, right?  Unless, maybe if the victim was a damn infidel.

Congress Ready for Replay of 1995 Government Shutdown

Courtesy of NewsMax.com Insider

When Congress comes back from their August hiatus, the stage will be set for another standoff between the Democrats and Republicans much like the one in 1995 that led to a shutdown of the Federal government.

As the Capitol Hill Newspaper Roll Call recalled, back in ’95 then-Speaker Newt Gingrich set the stage for the shut down when the GOP controlled defied President Clinton by submitting their own budget which Clinton vetoed, leaving the Federal cupboard bare and forcing the government to close its doors.

Now Republicans are warning Democrats that if they insist on spending more than the 9 percent increase the president is willing to allow them to take the blame if the government shuts up shop after a Bush veto of spending bills.

Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., the ranking member of the House Budget Committee, told Roll Call the problem is that Democrats want to increase spending by more than 9 percent.

“There’s no question we’re going to have some kind of a showdown at the end of the year,” Ryan predicted. “I don’t think an actual shutdown is necessary if we just pass straight CRs [Continuing Resolutions that keep programs going without passing new appropriation bills]. The problem is the majority might see that as a leverage point and advantage in pushing an actual shutdown so they can load up a CRs with strings.

“If they refuse to pass clean CRs, they are responsible for the shutdown, period, end of story.”

Liberal Blasts Washington Post Reporter

Courtesy of NewsMax.com Insider

Washington Post reporter John Solomon is single handedly seeking to torpedo the candidacy of former Sen. John Edwards, according to a liberal critic.

Writing on the left-wing Alternet Web site, Alexander Zaitchik asked, "Can One Reporter Take Down a Presidential Candidate? John Solomon Is Trying to Find Out."

Wrote Zaitchik "The overblown 'controversies' over John Edwards' $400 haircut, hedge fund work and real estate dealings are largely the product of one reporter at the Washington Post who hides his grudges behind 'fair and balanced' journalism.

Zaitchik zeroed in on Solomon's profile of hair stylist Joseph Torrenueva, as one proof of the Post reporter's alleged vendetta against Edwards.

"The Torrenueva profile didn't offer 'some kind of commentary' on the state of American politics so much as it offered insight into the peculiar priorities of its author, Post money and politics reporter John Solomon."

Zaitchik goes on to cite numerous Solomon stories dealing with Edwards, all accurate and well-researched and all legitimate criticisms of some of John Edward's activities such as his less than savory role in his consulting work in 2005 and 2006 for a hedge fund, his sale of his Georgetown home for $5.2 million or $1.4 million more than he paid for it in 2002.

"Although practically dripping with innuendo that Edwards had been involved in a sleazy land deal with known criminals and then lied about it, the article noticeably failed to contain any dirt. The article basically reported that Edwards had bought a house in D.C.'s booming real estate market, fixed it up and sold it three years later for a profit. The banality of these facts did not stop Post editors from placing the article above the fold, alongside the latest news from Iraq."

He ends his screed by warning, "If Solomon can keep getting away with his brand of ‘fair and balanced’ journalism, John Edwards and the rest of the presidential candidates are in for some trouble as the primary race heats up this fall."  Web page view

NYPD Steps Up Dirty Bomb Precautions

MYFOXNY.COM  --  The NYPD has modified its counter-terrorism posture Friday because of unverified intelligence regarding a dirty bomb risk.

This change includes an increased deployment of radiological sensors -- including those mounted on vehicles, boats and helicopters as well as those carried by NYPD personnel.

In addition, vehicle checkpoints are being established in New York City, including lower Manhattan, and at certain approaches to the city from neighboring areas.

These efforts are not in response to a verified threat, the department spokesman said.

'INTIFADA' PRINCIPAL RESIGNS

August 10, 2007 -- The principal of the city’s controversial, new Arabic academy resigned this morning in the wake of her comments that condoned "Intifada NYC" T-shirts.

Debbie Almontaser’s resignation comes just days after The NY Post reported that the inflammatory shirts were being sold by an Arab activist group headquartered in the same storefront as a Yemeni-American association that Almontaser heads.

Instead of condemning the shirts, Almontaser attempted to justify them, provoking a huge outcry from residents and elected officials who said she would not be appropriate to head the Khalil Gibran International Academy, which will focus on Arabic culture, history and language.

Debka Files - New al Qaeda Chatter Threatens U.S. Cities

This story is making the rounds on several blogs and forums. The information contained in the story has not been confirmed by U.S. Intelligence, law enforcement or reliable mainstream news sources. We cannot confirm the accuracy of this report and post it only for informational purposes.

The threat was picked up by DEBKA file’s monitors from a rush of electronic chatter on al Qaeda sites Thursday, Aug. 8.

The al Qaeda communications accuse the Americans of the grave error of failing to take seriously the videotape released by the American al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gaddahn last week. “They will soon realize their mistake when American cities are hit by quality operations,” said one message.

Another said the attacks would be carried out “by means of trucks loaded with radio-active material against America’s biggest city and financial nerve center.”

A third message mentioned New York, Los Angeles and Miami as targets. It drew the answer: “The attack, with Allah’s help, will cause an economic meltdown, many dead, and a financial crisis on a scale that compels the United States to pull its military forces out of many parts of the world, including Iraq, for lack of any other way of cutting down costs.”

There is also a message which speaks obliquely of the approaching attacks easing the heavy pressure America exerts on countries like Japan, Cuba and Venezuela.

DEBKA file’s counter-terror sources and monitors say there is no way of gauging for sure how serious these threats are, how real, or whether they are part of a war of nerves to give the Gaddahn tape extra mileage. But it is important to note that the exchange of messages took place over al Qaeda’s internal Internet sites and that they contained the threat of radioactive terror and specific American cities for the first time after a long silence on these subjects.

Precious Poets Remember Our Troops; Back a Play

There was a young gentleman who read Beyond Glory: Medal of Honor Heroes in Their Own Words by Larry Smith. After reading this book, he felt compelled to write a play about these men and tell their stories in words. It opened in 2004 "on the edge of Arlington Cemetery, at a small theater inside the Women in Military Service Memorial." Eight of these men were chosen of the twenty-four available to represent the men to be honored. There was an apolitical play, meaning this was not about politics. It is about our Heroes.

So how did it Mr. Lang, the performer, come to travel the world performing his play for our men and women in the Middle East, on the DMZ (dividing line between North and South Korea), Europe, and many other places? This is where our precious poets step up to the plate to support our Troops.
Mr. Peede had been asked to direct a new NEA [National Endowment for the Arts] program called Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience. Its intention was to help soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, or their families, to put their experiences into writing--fiction, non-fiction and poetry. The idea was suggested to NEA Chairman Dana Gioia, a poet, by Connecticut poet Marilyn Nelson, who'd recently served as a visiting writer at West Point. Good for the poets.

Reluctant to wait years for Congressional funding or to divert money from other NEA programs, Chairman Gioia sought private funding for Operation Homecoming. Quietly, the Boeing Company stepped up, ultimately giving $1.2 million. The soldiers' tutors at NEA's workshops included writers such as Barry Hannah, Tobias Wolff, Mark Bowden, Victor Davis Hanson and Tom Clancy. The result is a book, "Operation Homecoming" (Random House), which--again some understatement--is breathtakingly good. [Continue reading Mr. Henninger's article.]
It is a wonderful thing that has been done, finally, by the NEA and the Opinion Journal's article. You may purchase Operation Homecoming at Amazon.com. I thought you might like to know. Have a wonderful day! :)
