Last night, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed Governor Walker's budget repair bill, sending the bill to the Senate for a vote. However, Democrat State Senators are still missing and state police were dispatched to the homes of multiple Senate Democrats who fled the state in an attempt to block the bill from becoming law.

The Democrats in our state continue to hurl accusations of dictatorship and suggestions of violence. Radical members of the left are creating havoc at the cost of Wisconsin taxpayers. They're using increasingly vile language is pushing our state to the brink and we must act swiftly to push back.

We're fighting back against the extreme left in support of Governor Walker and the Republican State Senators who, unlike their Democrat counterparts, are doing their jobs and acting in the best interest of the taxpayers, not to mention the core conservative principles we share. But our strength is based on your support. And the cost of pushing back against these liberal groups is mounting.

The Democrats' over-the-top rhetoric is a transparent attempt to fill the void left by their hollow arguments and empty promises to taxpayers. This type of violent and sensational language from the left is an insult to you and me. We have come a long way since John Steinbeck's days of Cannery row... America has changed and I am wondering if the usefulness of UNIONS have come to pass. Guy Cecil, DSCC, wrote that he has been watching what’s going on in Wisconsin, and it’s just one more example of how extreme Republicans have gotten. Guy accuses the repubics of trying to balance the national budget on the backs of those who can least afford it. Guy also observed that the repubics are launching an attack on teachers, prison guards and other public employees – the very workers who educate children and keep America safe. And, the repubics are trying to strip away most collective bargaining rights and increasing the cost of UNION health care.

On the other hand, Conservatives dispute all that DSCC and the progressives say indicating that UNIONS are breaking the backs of state budgets and hold the people of the country hostage while protecting their own benefits...

We can not even give terrorists sponge baths to encourage them to talk..... After all, Eric "Obama's Legal Beagle" Holder nixed interrogating the panty bomber and made em read the Miranada warnings. Wonder if any of the Delta Airlines passengers had tingles up and down their legs when they found out that the panty bomber was fully protected under the American rules of law?

It appears to me that Holder shielded the pantie bomber from the National Security High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group (HIG).

In a previous press release, 08/2009, A/G Holder touted the use of the HIG. ".....creating the new interrogation unit, first reported by The Washington Independent, drew heavily from a proposal given to the task force in the spring by three security experts: Philip Heymann, a former deputy attorney general, forensic psychiatrist Robert Fein, and former CIA official John MacGaffin. The three, who contribute to a government advisory body called the Intelligence Science Board, recommended drawing a team together from the best interrogators from across the government to employ the best proven interrogation techniques for eliciting information humanely, and to create an institutional study of available social science information to inform interrogations. Both proposals were embraced by the task force, and one of the senior administration officials on the conference call praised the Intelligence Science Board’s work as “very thorough.”

The interrogations task force that recommended creating the new interrogation unit was chaired by Holder and co-chaired by Dennis Blair, the director of national intelligence and Bob Gates, the secretary of defense. It was run by J. Douglas Wilson, chief of the National Security Unit in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California. The Obama administration’s most egregious national security blunders over the past year can be traced back to the Department of Justice. From the handling of the interrogation and incarceration of the accused Christmas Day bomber to the decision to try the 9/11 terrorists in civilian courts, these national security misjudgments have made the United States less safe in the War on Terror. While the buck ultimately stops with President Obama, it is now clear, after a year of mistakes, that Eric Holder has failed in his role as Attorney General. He must go.

When Eric Holder was nominated for the post of Attorney General there was a small glimmer of hope among some conservatives that he would be reasonable when it came to war on terror issues. That hope was almost entirely based on a 2002 interview with CNN where Holder stated, correctly, that it was “hard for me to see how members of Al Qaeda could be considered prisoners of war” and thus entitled to the “protection of the Geneva Convention.” He continued: “One of the things we clearly want to do with these prisoners is to have an ability to interrogate them and find out what their future plans might be, where other cells are located,” he told then-CNN anchor Paula Zahn. “Under the Geneva Convention…you are really limited in the amount of information that you can elicit from people.” Courtesy of FoxNews

After years of trailing far behind Democrats, Republicans have now surpassed Democrats as the public's choice in the 2010 congressional elections. In response to the latest so-called "generic ballot" question from the Gallup organization -- "If elections for Congress were being held today, which party's candidate would you vote for in your congressional district?" -- the new results are 48 percent for Republicans versus 44 percent for Democrats among registered voters, and 46 percent for Republicans versus 44 percent for Democrats among adults nationwide.

It's an extraordinary turnaround for the GOP. Last July, Democrats held a six-point lead. Last December, Democrats held a 15-point lead. At one point in 2007, Democrats held a 23-point lead, and for all of that year, 2007, Democrats held a double-digit lead.

The new Republican lead is the result of a dramatic move of independents toward the Republican party. In the new poll, according to Gallup, the GOP leads among independents, 52 percent to 30 percent -- whopping 22-point margin. Last month, the Republican lead among independents was just nine points, and in July, the GOP lead was a single point. So among independents, the Republican lead has gone from one point to 22 points in less than six months -- with much of lead accumulating in the last month.

'This administration has pulled off an astonishing hat trick -- they have irritated Democrats, alienated independents and energized Republicans," says the Republican National Committee in a statement on the poll released this morning. "Last Tuesday's election made it official -- Americans, and especially they independent-minded voters, are soundly rejecting the big-government, over-reaching policies of President Obama and Washington Democrats. The voters have demonstrated tremendous backlash to the Obama administration's hard turn to the left. Republicans are the party of conservative problem-solvers while the Democrats have clearly demonstrated they are the party of big-government simply by the policies they have supported -- a failed stimulus package, a trillion dollar government-run health care experiment, and a job-killing national energy tax."

It has been increasingly quiet for American service personnel in Iraq in the past few weeks. Looks like President Oby won the war, in less than 45 days. Now he can concentrate on pulling the troops out of Afghanistan, pulling the plug on missile shield in eastern Europe, throw eastern European friends under the socialist bus, side with the Russians, throw Israel under the bus, side with the Arabs, etc etc.

all in a days work for President Oby.

But, Iraq, President Oby won the war in less than 45 days. He straightened out Bush's Quagmire.....

Eastern European governments that ran political risks to support former President George W. Bush’s security policies are now concerned that his successor, Barack Obama, will backtrack on those regional commitments.

Leaders in the Czech Republic, Poland and other former communist nations face a backlash at home over their support of Bush-era initiatives, including the proposed U.S. missile- defense system and troop participation in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, concern is growing in eastern Europe that it will be put on “the back burner” as the Obama administration talks about working with Russia and western Europe on issues such as Iran, says Annette Heuser, executive director of the Bertelsmann Foundation, a policy group in Washington.

Obama, 47, will have a chance to personally assuage concerns next month. After ignoring pleas from the east on his trip to Berlin, Paris and London as candidate last year, he will make his first visit there as president on April 5, Czech Premier Mirek Topolanek said yesterday. The president will travel to Prague to meet with European Union leaders, Topolanek said; the Czech Republic currently holds the EU’s rotating presidency.

While it’s too early to say what the president’s overall foreign policy will be, “we can see that Obama wants better relations with Russia and that he’s skeptical about missile defense,” says Jaroslaw Walesa, a lawmaker in Poland’s ruling Citizens’ Platform party and the son of the country’s first post-communist president, Lech Walesa.

Just a month a few days of loose change in the White House (gotta change that name to pink house, yellow house, red house, or ****house) President Barry Milhous Obamy signed the Welfare Entitlements Reparations Act of 2009, essentially making the average American taxpayer be libel to the tune of $25,000 tax bill and rising. (Financially challenged will collect $500 and a debt free house courtesy of the Acorn Mortgage Management Corporation).

Barry Milhous Obamy, the new Robin Hood of the Washington Forest, figures that by the time he is done robbing the rich to pay the poor, America will be fleeced dry and he can then sell all Federal Land to the China, Russia, and Venezuela. And, Russia can claim the oil on the Alaska North Slopes, that way his hands will be clean for the environmentalists.

From what I understand Hot Dog Frank, Stretch Pelosi, Swift-boat (rice in his but) Kerry, and Sheets Reid will overturn the 22nd Amendment and install the messiah for life.

Pelosi was overheard telling Barbie Boxer that she has never had a better time ****ing the stupid voters and that the swamp mice are multiplying and taking up residence in the Bart tunnel. That should stop the Bart trains and save the economy of the flower city.

Preserving ‘Harmony’ for Islamic Radicals

It has come to this: If you are an Islamic radical, trained to carry out terrorist atrocities in al-Qaeda’s jihad against the United Kingdom, the British will welcome you with open arms. Not content with that, Great Britain will lobby insistently for your release from custody so that you may freely roam British streets—and the halls of Westminster.

If, by contrast, you are a duly elected representative in the democratic government of a country to which England is bound in the European Union, and you speak about the undeniable—though mulishly denied—nexus between Islamic doctrine and jihadist terror, Great Britain will slam her door in your face.

That is the lesson in the appalling saga of Geert Wilders, a member of the Dutch parliament and Exhibit Umpty-Umpth illustrating the depths of capitulation to which the West has sunk in its half-hearted bid for cultural survival.

On Tuesday, British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith took time out of her busy schedule of protecting from extradition Britain’s expanding roster of resident terrorists to warn Wilders that he was not welcome in the country—notwithstanding that the vision of Europe as a “union” is supposed to mean that Europeans may travel freely within it. Quite apart from the fact that Wilders is a government official of the Netherlands, he was not visiting the U.K. on a lark. He was the invited guest of Malcolm Pearson, a member of the House of Lords. Lord Pearson and Baroness Caroline Cox (a human-rights activist who has worked tirelessly on behalf of enslaved and oppressed Christians and Muslims in Sudan) had asked Wilders to screen his short, controversial film, Fitna.
Wilders is a lightning rod. In the great tradition of the Enlightenment, and to the consternation of post-sovereign Europe, he faithfully reports what his senses perceive. When he studies the Koran, he finds exhortations to violence. When he reads Allah’s command in Sura 9:5 that “when the sacred months have passed,” Muslims must “slay the idolaters wherever ye find them,” he entertains the outlandish idea that this means what it plainly says, and is understood by many Muslims as doing so. He has noticed, after all, that this passage is not singular, that its injunction is a recurrent theme in the Koran, and that the sentiment is even more pronounced in the Hadith and other Islamic scriptures, which elevate jihad—in its original, accurate, military sense: waging war against unbelievers—to the highest form of worship. He has noticed, moreover, that Muslim militants seem to slay the idolaters and other unbelievers with some regularity.

So Wilders is not making this up. It is, in fact, a view of Muslim doctrine he shares with some of the world’s most renowned authorities on the subject. There is, for instance, Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, the inspiration for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and also, according to Osama bin Laden, for the 9/11 attacks. Rahman’s leadership position in the global jihad stems solely from his scholarship—he is a doctor of Islamic jurisprudence and a graduate of Egypt’s al-Azhar University, the seat of Sunni learning. Or, to cite another example (and I could cite many others), there is Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, who fomented international rioting over cartoons of Mohammed and who urges jihadists to continue the fight “in Palestine, in Iraq, in Lebanon, and in every country that has been conquered by foreigners.” Our own State Department describes Qaradawi as an “intelligent and thoughtful voice” from the Middle East who “deserves our attention.”

For his trouble in pointing out the ability of doctrine to inspire action, Wilders has been indicted in Holland for “inciting hatred.” Prosecutors initially declined to pursue the case, but they have been overruled by Amsterdam’s craven court of appeals, which is paralyzed by dread of upsetting Dutch Muslims, who have been known to erupt in murderous riots over perceived slights.

Fitna runs about 15 minutes long. It depicts a phenomenon familiar to Britons who witnessed July 7 and Americans who lived through September 11: The faithful rendition of verses from the Koran, often recited by influential Islamic clerics, followed by acts of terrorism committed by Muslim militants who profess that they are simply putting those scriptures into action. To be sure, this is not the dominant interpretation among the world’s billion-plus Muslims, most of whom do not so much interpret their creed as ignore those parts that would otherwise trouble them. But to deny that Fitna reflects an intellectually consistent construction of Islam, adhered to by an energetic minority, is to deny reality.

Wilders, consequently, discerns parallels between the Koran and Adolph Hitler’s polemic, Mein Kampf. Let’s set aside the fact that the German kampf and the Arabic jihad convey the same meaning—struggle. The analogy pressed by Wilders is hardly foreign to British ears. As Middle East expert Daniel Pipes and researcher Andrew Bostom have noted, none less than Winston Churchill himself, in his history of the Second World War, described Mein Kampf as “the new Koran of faith and war: turgid, verbose, shapeless, but pregnant with its message.” One needn’t accept the analogy (Pipes, for example, does not) to concede it is not a frivolous one.

Today’s Britain, however, is not the Britain of Churchill and free expression, but of Jacqui Smith and multicultural hypersensitivity. Wilders intended to screen his film in the House of Lords in late January, but his trip was postponed due to the machinations of Nazir Ahmed, a Labour lord and grievance-industry agitator of the first order. As the Hudson Institute’s Thomas Landen reports, Lord Ahmed threatened to mobilize 10,000 rabble-rousers to prevent Wilders from entering Parliament. When the trip was rescheduled for this week, Smith’s office issued a curt letter apprising Wilders that he would not be admitted into the country. According to the letter, Wilders’s “statements about Muslims and their beliefs, as expressed in your film Fitna and elsewhere, would threaten community harmony and therefore public security in the U.K.” Later, the Home Office laughably maintained that by barring Wilders it was perforce barring “extremism, hatred, and violent messages.”

Of course, extremism, hatred, and violent messages have found a comfortable home in the birthplace of Western civil rights, where “community harmony” means that jihadists talk and you listen. In 2005, Lord Ahmed hosted a book launch for Joran Jermas, one of Sweden’s most rabid anti-Semites, who predictably ranted about the “Jewish supremacy drive,” the Jews as the “one reason for wars, terror and trouble” in the Middle East, and Zionist “control” of Western mass media. The following year, his guest at Westminster, a building that happens to be one of al-Qaeda’s most coveted targets, was Mahmoud Suliman Ahmed Abu Rideh, who attended a session of the House of Commons. Before his release in 2005, Abu Rideh, a Palestinian, had been detained under Britain’s Terrorism Act of 2001 (an enactment later voided by the law lords as a violation of human rights) due to al-Qaeda connections and threats to carry out a bombing plot. Not to worry: Abu Rideh explained that he didn’t leave his family to go to Afghanistan for jihad, but to set up a charitable school for children. Next case.

Suspected al-Qaeda members are welcome in Parliament, but not a member of the Dutch parliament. Britain has a revolving door for Islamic radicals but a closed door for their democratic critics. In 2004, British authorities insisted that the Bush administration return to the U.K. all Britons who, having been captured fighting with the enemy in Afghanistan and elsewhere, were held at Guantanamo Bay. After President Bush acceded, the former detainees were promptly released.

Not content with that, the Brits proceeded to demand that non-British detainees be shipped to England from Gitmo if they had any basis to claim legal U.K. residence. Despite the Pentagon’s protestations that these detainees were extremely dangerous, the Bush administration again relented. As night follows day, in late 2007, British authorities set the suspected terrorists free. And when this move aroused grave public concern, Lord Peter Henry Goldsmith, a former attorney general, gave voice to the Labour government’s dismissive party line: It did not matter whether the men were dangerous, because at stake was a “principle . . . which is more important.” “The principle,” Lord Goldsmith piously proclaimed, “is fundamental civil liberties.”

Indeed. Fundamental civil liberties for those committed to destroying the ever-diminishing British way of life. Cassandra has been shown the door.

How many senators and congresspersons should be investigated

In the Hannity forum this morning, Red Wing Lion started an interesting post about the FBI probing 530 corporate fraud cases--Fox News

I watched banking reps getting grilled about their alleged mismanagement of TARP funds, and it got me to thinking how many US legislators in the Senate and House should get investigated too and who should do the grilling.

Watching Barney Frank at this morning Bank TARP Money hearing with his pompous attitude made my chuckle and also made me angry at the same time.

I figure that in the House, we have about 251 representatives of a variety of flavors. In the Senate we have about 100 representatives of a variety of flavors.

Just how many legislators are ethically challenged and have misguided agendas? Be specific on whom you believe should be under investigation and be specific on to whom and why they should be named in federal indictments.

What say you America?

Well, it appears that President Obama's slip is showing. Our president has shown that he is an inexperienced politician rather than President in his peformance regarding the economic "porkulus" package issue.

Some are beginning to question the President's tone and leadership. According to newspaper articles, President Obama is mocking his political rivals and accusing them of playing games with his economic "porkulus" package.

Conservatives are complaining that while Obama held a set of good-faith
bipartisan meetings with congressional leaders in January, now he's reverted to
campaign mode in a bid to muscle the more than $900 billion package through
Congress. Obama said Friday it is "inexcusable and irresponsible" to
delay passage of the recovery plan.
"He reduced himself from being president of all the American people to being the partisan leader of the left," former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich said of Obama's Thursday night speech. "The first month of your presidency is not a very good time to give a campaign speech."

On Thursday evening during an interview on Fox News, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., pointed out that the President was "AWOL" on the legislation. Senator Graham indicated that the president has taken no leadership in the issue, promoted partisan politics and was trying to "scare" the public in his press releases and campaign issues.

Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., defended President Obama's behavior and politicking on Fox News by saying, "The president can't write this bill. The Congress has to, but the two can mutually collaborate." I discussed this with one of my liberal friends who is still suffering from Bush derangement syndrome, and he explained to be that the President cannot interject himself into the matter because there has to be three distinct separation of powers, judicial, legislative, and executive powers and that the President must not "bully" congress. I pointed out that he should lead. His Vice President shows a lack of leadership too. Vice President Biden has shown his partisan self during this economic "porkulus" package debate.

I believe that the President could in good faith tell the legislators to knock off the pork, perhaps forward them an "unofficial" economic stimulus outline and tell them to remove the pork. We need leaders and not political hacks in charge of processes.

President Obama is the guy who said that he won and that there was no compromise on his "porkulus" package. About all I can say about the current situation is that President Obama's concepts on transparency, bi-partisanship, and change is rather one sided; his way or the highway.

Every time a conservative or republican disagrees with the President, Senator Reid, or Congresswoman Pelosi, one will expect to be singled out, strong armed, or chastised.

I sincerely hope that President Obama will eventually develop some leadership traits and leave his political activism behind.

The “Fairness Doctrine” is The Censorship Doctrine

Coulter vs. The Counter-Coulters

Ann Coulter’s new book “Guilty” is out and two things are certain: It will surely be another best-seller, and she will once again drive the Left bonkers. No institution will be more offended than the national press. Prepare to witness their meltdown.

The Drudge Report caused a firestorm when anonymous NBC insiders leaked the word that Coulter had been “banned for life” from that network. CBS featured her on “The Early Show” and a combative Harry Smith tried to insult her to the extreme. He called her “goofy,” “simplistic,” “sophomoric,” and a “whiner.” “You should have a cross,” he said dismissively. “You should put yourself up on a cross.” Why are they so upset?

The so-called “objective” media clearly feel threatened because they are the very liberals Coulter is attacking. If they weren’t liberals, none of her mockery of liberals would bother them. Oh, they might not appreciate her style, as some conservatives don’t. But they wouldn’t have pitched debates inside their walls about how they will savage her in interviews – and I defy the networks to deny this – or how they would remove her from their airwaves altogether.

Those rumored bans have been demanded by the leftist lobbyists for the Censorship Doctrine – people who say they oppose “conservative misinformation,” but clearly want conservatives tossed from the radio and TV airwaves before “misinformation” or just plain conservative thought spills out. They have pressured the networks to stop helping Coulter sell books. Freedom of speech is truly a dangerous concept when conservatives exercise it.

But liberals who claim to oppose “inflammatory rhetoric” on television when it comes from conservatives have no problem with uncivil liberalism. Or 100 percent hate-filled left-wing character assassination. Take NBC, which could not look sillier if it ever seriously banned Coulter for being hyperbolic, when vicious, hyperbolic liberals (Olbermann, Maddow, and Matthews) dominate MSNBC.

It’s easy to run down a list of inflammatory liberals who are welcomed on the TV morning shows. Start with Kitty Kelley’s wild “investigative” books on the Reagans or the Bushes. Or Michael Moore’s kooky conspiracy theories. Or Al Franken suggesting Karl Rove and Scooter Libby should be executed over Plamegate. (NBC’s Matt Lauer and his off-camera crew laughed at that.)

Or recall Bill Maher on his HBO show in 2007 suggesting Arianna Huffington shouldn’t ban commenters on her website wishing Dick Cheney had died in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan. “That’s a funny joke,” Maher said. “If this isn’t China, shouldn’t you be able to say that?” He added that Cheney’s death by suicide bomber might be a public service: “I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.”

Harry Smith hosted Maher on CBS just months ago on his faith-mocking movie “Religulous” and didn’t say one discouraging word to him about his caustic remarks about Cheney or his hateful anti-Christian bigotry. Not one word.

But when Ann Coulter speaks, the brass knuckles come out. In 2007, Coulter was heavily criticized for joking that she couldn’t talk about John Edwards, since an ABC actor was forced to apologize for saying “faggot” at the Golden Globes. Liberals were furious. Coulter responded by saying next time, she’d echo Bill Maher and just wish Edwards died in a terrorist attack. Elizabeth Edwards then denounced Coulter for suggesting she wanted her husband dead. Harry Smith invited Mrs. Edwards on CBS, offered her brief softballs and let her verbally whack Coulter with a bat.

Smith is an enormous hypocrite. He completely ignored vicious remarks by Mrs. Edwards just days before, in accepting a “Rage for Justice” award, that the Bush administration was waging a class war that compared to slaughters in Darfur:

“The White House has led the charge against working people, in their own class war. The late, great Molly Ivins once wrote: ‘If there was class warfare, that war was long over. And it was a massacre… a genocide to which there have been words of acknowledgment, as there have in Darfur, but as with Darfur, no meaningful action.’”

But when Ann Coulter comes on the set with Smith, the gloves come off.

Ann Coulter’s liberal-bashing columns and books and television appearances are fun for conservatives, simply because there’s nothing funnier for the right that witnessing CBS putting up on its own screen a Coulter quote about Ted Kennedy and CBS: “Kennedy may be a drunken slob, but unlike CBS News anchors, he is not certifiably insane.”

Call Coulter outrageous, call her a bomb-thrower, even state she goes beyond the pale of civility, if that’s your read. But do not assign that label to Coulter and then present your on-air love and kisses and giggles to all the public leftist hate-spewing that far exceeds any perceived incivility by Coulter. That is utterly transparent liberalism, and utterly transparent hypocrisy.

Jewish-French philosopher Bernard Henri-Levy was listed by a Belgium-based Islamist group as a target for assassination alongside other leading Jewish personalities in Europe, the Belgian daily La Derniere Heure reported earlier this week.

The planned assassination was apparently thwarted after group leader Abdelkader Belliraj, a Belgian of Moroccan ascent, was arrested last February in Morocco, the newspaper reported.
Belgian authorities found the list during a raid on homes of local Muslim community members last November, according to the report.

The hit list mentioned the names of five other well-know Jewish figures in Belgium and France: Josy Eisenberg, producer of the A Bible ouverte (Open Bible) television program on FR2; Simone Susskind, a leader of Belgium's secular Jewish community; attorney Markus Pardes, president of the International Association of Jewish lawyers and jurists; Belgian writer Jean-Claude Bologne and La Derniere Heure reporter Edmond Blattche.

Belliraj is scheduled for trial next week over charges of assassinating and orchestrating the murders of six people in Belgium during 1980s, as well as for charges of arms trafficking.

It appears that Israel and much of the civilized world finally understands that all out war is necessary to deal with the Palestinians. When leftist peaceniks have finally had enough of being punched in the face by those they want to help, then there truly is hope for a sensible resolution to this conflict.

I hate war. War is hell. Being murdered by those that refuse peace is worse. Allowing Israel to finish what it failed to do in 2006 will allow 2009 to bring us one step closer to peace.

As always, if you have anything to promote, especially if it deals with this topic, please let me know. I received some spectacular hate mail this week, and look forward to entertaining the many with the intellectual deficiencies of the few.

Another friend, Abe, summed it up the other day, Olmert has let it go too far. He should have dealt with it quite some time ago. Now it's costing more, and it can't be as successful. Still, it's the last chance before Obama gets into office.

Is Israel using 'Disproportionate Force'

Israeli population centers in southern Israel have been the target of over 4,000 rockets, as well as thousands of mortar shells, fired by Hamas and other organizations since 2001. Rocket attacks increased by 500 percent after Israel withdrew completely from the Gaza Strip in August 2005. During an informal six-month lull, some 215 rockets were launched at Israel.

The charge that Israel uses disproportionate force keeps resurfacing whenever it has to defend its citizens from non-state terrorist organizations and the rocket attacks they perpetrate. From a purely legal perspective, Israel's current military actions in Gaza are on solid ground. According to international law, Israel is not required to calibrate its use of force precisely according to the size and range of the weaponry used against it.

Ibrahim Barzak and Amy Teibel wrote for the Associated Press on December 28 that most of the 230 Palestinians who were reportedly killed were "security forces," and Palestinian officials said "at least 15 civilians were among the dead." The numbers reported indicate that there was no clear intent to inflict disproportionate collateral civilian casualties. What is critical from the standpoint of international law is that if the attempt has been made "to minimize civilian damage, then even a strike that causes large amounts of damage - but is directed at a target with very large military value - would be lawful."

Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, explained that international humanitarian law and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court "permit belligerents to carry out proportionate attacks against military objectives, even when it is known that some civilian deaths or injuries will occur." The attack becomes a war crime when it is directed against civilians (which is precisely what Hamas does).
After 9/11, when the Western alliance united to collectively topple the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, no one compared Afghan casualties in 2001 to the actual numbers that died from al-Qaeda's attack. There clearly is no international expectation that military losses in war should be on a one-to-one basis. To expect Israel to hold back in its use of decisive force against legitimate military targets in Gaza is to condemn it to a long war of attrition with Hamas.

Israel is currently benefiting from a limited degree of understanding in international diplomatic and media circles for launching a major military operation against Hamas on December 27. Yet there are significant international voices that are prepared to argue that Israel is using disproportionate force in its struggle against Hamas.

Israeli Population Centers Under Rocket Attack

There are good reasons why initial criticism of Israel has been muted. After all, Israeli population centers in southern Israel have been the target of over 4,000 rockets, as well as thousands of mortar shells, fired by Hamas and other organizations since 2001. The majority of those attacks were launched after Israel withdrew completely from the Gaza Strip in August 2005. Indeed, rocket attacks increased by 500 percent (from 179 to 946) from 2005 to 2006.

Moreover, lately Hamas has been extending the range of its striking capability even further with new rockets supplied by Iran. Hamas used a 20.4-kilometer-range Grad/Katyusha for the first time on March 28, 2006, bringing the Israeli city of Ashkelon into range of its rockets for the first time. That change increased the number of Israelis under threat from 200,000 to half a million. Moreover, on December 21, 2008, Yuval Diskin, Head of the Israel Security Agency, informed the Israeli government that Hamas had acquired rockets that could reach Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, and even the outskirts of Beersheba. The first Grad/Katyusha strike on Ashdod, in fact, took place on December 28. There had been no formal cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, but only an informal six-month tahadiya (lull), during which 215 rockets were launched at Israel. On December 21, Hamas unilaterally announced that the tahadiya had ended.

Critical Voices

On December 27, 2008, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's spokesmen issued a statement saying that while the Secretary-General recognized "Israel's security concerns regarding the continued firing of rockets from Gaza," he reiterated "Israel's obligation to uphold international humanitarian and human rights law." The statement specifically noted that he "condemns excessive use of force leading to the killing and injuring of civilians [emphasis added]."
A day later, Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights "strongly condemned Israel's disproportionate use of force." French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, also condemned Israel's "disproportionate use of force," while demanding an end to rocket attacks on Israel. Brazil also joined this chorus, criticizing Israel's "disproportionate response." Undoubtedly, a powerful impression has been created by large Western newspaper headlines that describe massive Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, without any up-front explanation for their cause.

Proportionality and International Law: The Protection of Innocent Civilians

When international legal experts use the term "disproportionate use of force," they have a very precise meaning in mind. As the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Rosalyn Higgins, has noted, proportionality "cannot be in relation to any specific prior injury - it has to be in relation to the overall legitimate objective of ending the aggression." In other words, if a state, like Israel, is facing aggression, then proportionality addresses whether force was specifically used by Israel to bring an end to the armed attack against it. By implication, force becomes excessive if it is employed for another purpose, like causing unnecessary harm to civilians. The pivotal factor determining whether force is excessive is the intent of the military commander. In particular, one has to assess what was the commander's intent regarding collateral civilian damage.

What about reports concerning civilian casualties? Some international news agencies have stressed that the vast majority of those killed in the first phase of the current Gaza operation were Hamas operatives. Ibrahim Barzak and Amy Teibel wrote for the Associated Press on December 28 that most of the 230 Palestinians who were reportedly killed were "security forces," and Palestinian officials said "at least 15 civilians were among the dead." It is far too early to definitely assess Palestinian casualties, but even if they increase, the numbers reported indicate that there was no clear intent to inflict disproportionate collateral civilian casualties.

During the Second Lebanon War, Professor Michael Newton of Vanderbilt University was in email communication with William Safire of the New York Times about the issue of proportionality and international law. Newton had been quoted by the Council on Foreign Relations as explaining proportionality by proposing a test: "If someone punches you in the nose, you don't burn down their house." He was serving as an international criminal law expert in Baghdad and sought to correct the impression given by his quote. According to Newton, no responsible military commander intentionally targets civilians, and he accepted that this was Israeli practice.

What was critical from the standpoint of international law was that if the attempt had been made "to minimize civilian damage, then even a strike that causes large amounts of damage - but is directed at a target with very large military value - would be lawful." Numbers matter less than the purpose of the use of force. Israel has argued that it is specifically targeting facilities serving the Hamas regime and its determined effort to continue its rocket assault on Israel: headquarters, training bases, weapons depots, command and control networks, and weapons-smuggling tunnels. This way Israel is respecting the international legal concept of proportionality.

Alternatively, disproportionality would occur if the military sought to attack even if the value of a target selected was minimal in comparison with the enormous risk of civilian collateral damage. This point was made by Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, on February 9, 2006, in analyzing the Iraq War. He explained that international humanitarian law and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court "permit belligerents to carry out proportionate attacks [emphasis added] against military objectives, even when it is known that some civilian deaths or injuries will occur." The attack becomes a war crime when it is directed against civilians (which is precisely what Hamas does) or when "the incidental civilian injuries would be clearly excessive in relation to the anticipated military advantage." In fact, Israeli legal experts right up the chain of command within the IDF make this calculation before all military operations of this sort.

Proportionality as a Strategic Issue

Moving beyond the question of international law, the charge that Israel is using a disproportionate amount of force in the Gaza Strip because of reports of Palestinian casualties has to be looked at critically. Israelis have often said among themselves over the last seven years that when a Hamas rocket makes a direct strike on a crowded school, killing many children, then Israel will finally act.

This scenario raises the question of whether the doctrine of proportionality requires that Israel wait for this horror to occur, or whether Israel could act on the basis of the destructive capability of the arsenal Hamas already possesses, the hostile declarations of intent of its leaders, and its readiness to use its rocket forces already. Alan Dershowitz noted two years ago: "Proportion must be defined by reference to the threat proposed by an enemy and not by the harm it has produced." Waiting for a Hamas rocket to fall on an Israeli school, he rightly notes, would put Israel in the position of allowing "its enemies to play Russian Roulette with its children."

The fundamental fact is that in fighting terrorism, no state is willing to play Russian Roulette. After the U.S. was attacked on 9/11, the Western alliance united to collectively topple the Taliban regime in Afghanistan; no one compared Afghan casualties in 2001 to the actual numbers that died from al-Qaeda's attack. Given that al-Qaeda was seeking non-conventional capabilities, it was essential to wage a campaign to deny it the sanctuary it had enjoyed in Afghanistan, even though that struggle continues right up to the present.

Is There Proportionality Against Military Forces?

And in fighting counterinsurgency wars, most armies seek to achieve military victory by defeating the military capacity of an adversary, as efficiently as possible. There clearly is no international expectation that military losses in war should be on a one-to-one basis; most armies seek to decisively eliminate as many enemy forces as possible while minimizing their own losses of troops. There are NATO members who have been critical of "Israel's disproportionate use of force," while NATO armies take pride in their "kill ratios" against the Taliban in Afghanistan. Moreover, decisive military action against an aggressor has another effect: it increases deterrence.To expect Israel to hold back in its use of decisive force against legitimate military targets in Gaza is to condemn it to a long war of attrition with Hamas.

The loss of any civilian lives is truly regrettable. Israel has canceled many military operations because of its concern with civilian casualties. But should civilian losses occur despite the best efforts of Israel to avoid them, it is ultimately not Israel's responsibility. As political philosopher Michael Walzer noted in 2006: "When Palestinian militants launch rocket attacks from civilian areas, they are themselves responsible - and no one else is - for the civilian deaths caused by Israeli counterfire."

International critics of Israel may be looking to craft balanced statements that spread the blame for the present conflict to both sides. But they would be better served if they did not engage in this artificial exercise, and clearly distinguish the side that is the aggressor in this conflict - Hamas - and the side that is trying to defeat the aggression - Israel.

Tensions have recently increased between the pro-Western, moderate Arab countries, led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and the Iranian-Syrian axis, which supports Hizbullah, Hamas and the resistance in Iraq. Saudi Arabia and Egypt accused Iran and Syria of attempting to destabilize the region by interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries and nurturing the resistance movements in Lebanon, Iraq and the Palestinian territories. They also accused Syria of dividing the Arab ranks and helping the non-Arab Iran to take over the Middle East, to the detriment of Arab interests.

Syria and Iran, for their part, accused Saudi Arabia and Egypt of being pro-American and pro-Israeli and of pursuing a conciliatory policy aimed at undermining the activity of the resistance movements. Recent political initiatives by Saudi Arabia – namely, the November 2008 Interfaith Dialogue Conference in New York, and the efforts to promote the Saudi peace initiative – were portrayed as attempts to achieve normalization with Israel and to deny the Palestinians' right of return. Saudi King 'Abdallah was branded by Syria as an "infidel" and "collaborator with the Imperialist Satan," while Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was called a "traitor" and a "tyrant" who should be assassinated like the late Egyptian president Anwar Sadat.

The prevailing tensions between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, on the one hand, and Syria and Iran, on the other, have intensified further following the recent terrorist attacks in Lebanon and Syria, with Syria accusing Saudi Arabia and the Lebanese March 14 Forces of supporting fundamentalist organizations in Lebanon, such as Fath Al-Islam, which, they claimed, was responsible for the September 2008 terrorist attack in Damascus. In response, Saudi Arabia and the March 14 Forces stated that it was Syria that had created and nurtured Fath Al-Islam, with the goal of undermining Lebanon's stability and regaining control over it. They contended that the Damascus attack had been aimed at creating a false impression that the Syrian regime was also suffering from terrorism.

Conflict also arose between Egypt and Hamas, after Egypt opened its border to Gaza pilgrims en route to Mecca but Hamas subsequently prevented them from reaching the border. This crisis, too, developed into a wide-scale conflict between Egypt and Saudi Arabia vs. Syria and Iran. Egypt accused Hamas of harming the Palestinians even more than Israel is, thereby promoting the interests of Syria and Iran, who are anxious to perpetuate the Palestinian problem rather than resolve it. Syria, Iran, and Hamas accused Egypt of being responsible for the siege of Gaza and of not acting as a neutral mediator between the Palestinian factions. In Iran, there have even been calls to topple the Saudi and Egyptian regimes.

Iran using Venezuela ties to duck UN sanctions: report

According to AFP and Iran Focus: Iran is using its warm relations with Venezuela to dodge UN sanctions and use Venezuelan aircraft to ship missile parts to Syria, an Italian newspaper reported Sunday.

Citing US and other Western intelligence agencies, La Stampa said Iran is using aircraft from Venezuelan airline Conviasa to transport computers and engine components to Syria for use in missiles.

The material comes from Iranian industrial group Shahid Bagheri, listed in the annex of UN Security Council Resolution 1737, adopted in December 2006, for involvement in Iran's ballistic missile programme.

Thousands signing petition to pardon Border Patrol agents

WASHINGTON – In just the first 72 hours, more than 15,000 people have signed a petition to free imprisoned Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, a campaign that was launched by WND Editor Joseph Farah.

"I am calling on President Bush to do the right thing before he leaves office Jan. 20," said Farah. "These are the pardons or sentence commutations the American people want to see more than any other. We don't want to see any more drug dealers freed. We don't want to see any other millionaires get pardons. We don't want to see any other well-connected crooks have their sentences overturned. We want to see Ramos and Compean out and their reputations restored."

Ramos and Compean are serving sentences of 11 and 12 years respectively for the shooting of an illegal alien drug smuggler in the line of duty. The drug dealer received only minor injuries and was given full immunity from prosecution by the federal prosecutor in return for his testimony against the agents.

They were convicted and sentenced under a law requiring a minimum 10-year sentence for the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime – a law the Congress never intended to apply to law enforcement officers. They have already served nearly two years in prison – mostly solitary confinement.

"Personally, I want to see these two men home for Christmas," said Farah. "Enough is enough. Their convictions and sentences were miscarriages of justice. President Bush has one last chance to demonstrate he really has a 'compassionate conservative' heart beating inside his chest. This is the test."

Farah said he does not believe Bush will act without massive pressure from the American people.

"I hope millions of Americans will join me in this plea right now," he said. "I know of no better way than to sign this petition, which I pledge to use to get the attention of the White House."

"I think we've got a unique opportunity to reboot America's image around the world and also in the Muslim world in particular," Obama said in the interview published late Tuesday on the Tribune's website.
Obama promised an "unrelenting" desire to "create a relationship of mutual respect and partnership in countries and with peoples of good will who want their citizens and ours to prosper together."

Maybe it is a mistake, maybe it is not. Why do the Jews want to make peace with Muhammadans and other Arabs? It makes common sense, my friends? Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. It is fast becoming a majority in lands that were once Christian or secular. We do have to find a way to come to terms with Islam. It is documented in history of past concessions with Islam and how disastrous it was. I pray for reformation and enlightenment of the Islamic faith to allow Kafir and Ahl al-Kitab to live in peace with the Arab world. Until then, it may be foolhardy to make concessions. I am curious what President-elect Obama intends to do.....

September 26 marked the 20th anniversary of Viking Penguin's publication of Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses. While generally well-received by the critics, its treatment of Islamic themes in a series of narrative subplots was quickly deemed blasphemous and Viking Penguin's refusal to heed demands for its withdrawal led to an international furor, culminating in an Iranian fatwa sentencing Rushdie to death. His crime? Responsibility for a book which was "compiled, printed and published in opposition to Islam, the prophet and the Koran" and "dared to insult the Islamic sanctities."

That Rushdie was forced to spend 10 years in hiding (and still lives under threat of execution) on the grounds that The Satanic Verses, a work of fiction, represented a "total distortion of the historical facts" about Islam is deeply ironic, given that a genuine critico-historical assault on "Islamic sanctities" had been under way for more than a decade with no repercussions.

Spearheaded by scholars at London University's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), it focused largely on the Koran, which these so-called new historians of Islam subjected to modern historical and philological analysis. Their findings flatly contradict the Islamic account of its origins.

According to this account, the Koran represents the uncorrupted word of God, "constant, immaculate, unalterable and inimitable." It was transmitted to man through Muhammad, a prosperous Meccan merchant who received it via the angel Gabriel as a series of verse revelations between 610 and his death in 632. Uneducated and illiterate, Muhammad committed these revelations to memory before reciting them to his followers, who memorized them verbatim in turn. The killing of hundreds of these "memorizers" in the battle of Yamama in 633 alerted his successor as Muslim leader, the first caliph, Abu Bakr, to the danger that the revelations could be lost. He therefore gathered all available sources into a loose compilation called the suhuf which was then used by the third caliph, Uthman, to produce in the mid-650s a standardized text of the Koran. Copies were sent to Islamic communities with orders that all other versions be destroyed. Muslims believe this Uthmanic recension is the Koran as we have it today.

Immigrating to the United States from another country and wanting to return home to visit friends or family should not be a red flag or cause any concern.

How about Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, the 1999 valedictorian at the Islamic Saudi Academy, Northern Virginia, who was convicted of joining Al Qaeda and plotting to assassinate President Bush? Jihadi Ali was a United States Citizen, born in Houston, Texas, and raised mostly in the U.S. His father worked for the Saudi embassy and the family moved to to Jordan for four years. They returned to Falls Church, Virginia, when Abu Ali was 14 or 15. Jihadi Ali's father worked at the Saudi Embassy in Washington. Now he (Jihadi Ali not his father) is a convicted terrorist.

Let us not forget John Phillip Walker Lindh and Adam Gahdan, two Californians who converted to Islam. What caused them to turn into lunatics? We should be studying and exploring as to what caused peaceful Muhammadans to metamorphose into radical Muhammadans. Do they and potentially thousands of others pose a threat to the stability of the United States of America or are these simply isolated incidents not worthy of serious concern?

Both American Jews and Muslims are children of Abraham and citizens of the same country, and we share a common faith and destiny," he said. Israel and the Jewish People have made so many concessions in the past in regards to the peace process and have tried to heal the feelings between the House of Issac and the House of Ishmael ( إسماعيل ).

Perhaps the brothers can resolve their conflict and worship allah, the father of Abraham, together.

It is the contention of the Muhammadans that the Hebrew people must realize that Ishmael ( إسماعيل ) is the first born son of Abraham and has the birthright to the land in the Middle East.

We should discuss the night journey of Muhammad as depicted in Surah 17. Surah 17 indicates that Muhammad supernaturally visited a mosque in Jerusalem in his time on a night journey from Mecca. Was there really a Muslim mosque on the temple Mount in Jerusalem?

According to Surah 17, the Muhammadans show proof that they have claim to the Temple Mount and Jerusalem.

Yusuf ‘Ali’s footnote 2168. "The Farthest Mosque must refer to the site of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem on the hill of Moriah, at or near which stands the Dome of the Rock, called also the Mosque of Hadhrat ‘Umar. This and the Mosque known as the Farthest Mosque (Masjid-ul-Aqsa) were completed by the Amir ‘Abd-ul-Malik in A.H. 68. … and completely razed to the ground by the Emperor Titus in A.D. 70." Farooq-i-Azam Malik’s translation of Sura 17:1. "Glory be to Him Who took His devotee (Muhammed) one night from Masjid-al-Haram (in Makkah) to Masjid-al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem), whose vicinity We have blessed, so that We may show him some of Our signs; surely He is the One Who is the Hearer, the Observer." Many times in the English translations of the hadiths say "Jerusalem" when the Arabic is al-Aqsa, meaning "the farthest mosque".

I do not believe that Israel or the Hebrew people will be able to make any concessions other than to cede the State of Israel back to Muhammad and convert to the true and restored religion of Islamic allah.

The damage from pornography addiction runs deep, but one author has found freedom through Christ.

Author and speaker Jarrod Jones has written a book called 13 Ways to Ruin Your Life. In his travels, he has been amazed at the number of Christians who admit to having a problem with pornography.

"Messages have bombarded them, as well the temptations of sexual sin have come upon them so powerfully," he notes. "Through the testimonies they share with me, I have been shocked at how many have felt the openness to share with me their struggle with pornography -- I'm talking from ministers to married men, businessmen, men in ministry, young men."

Jones personally struggled through the damaging effects of pornography addiction and the subsequent loss of a relationship. He calls the Bible a starting place and the central focus of recovery. "Proverbs 7, which deals with watching a young man falling into sexual sin and what it's going to cost him, and it's going to ruin his life," he explains.

13 Ways is not a tell-all book, but Jones uses his personal experiences to illustrate how Christ can change a person. "With those battles in my life and those experiences, I discovered that...Jesus began changing [those desires] because of his Spirit within me," he adds. "My desires were to be more about him, and with my mind, with my eyes, with my ears, with my body, and to pursue him in that way."

The next two decades will see a world living with the daily threat of nuclear war, environmental catastrophe and the decline of America as the dominant global power, according to a frighteningly bleak assessment by the U.S. intelligence community.
"The world of the near future will be subject to an increased likelihood of conflict over resources, including food and water, and will be haunted by the persistence of rogue states and terrorist groups with greater access to nuclear weapons," said the report by the National Intelligence Council.
The analysts said that the report had been prepared in time for Barack Obama's entry into the Oval office on January 20, where he will be faced with some of the greatest challenges of any newly-elected president.
"The likelihood that nuclear weapons will be used will increase with expanded access to technology and a widening range of options for limited strikes," the 121-page assessment said.

The analysts draw attention to an already escalating nuclear arms race in the Middle East and anticipate that a growing number of rogue states will be prepared to share their destructive technology with terror groups.
"Over the next 15-20 years reactions to the decisions Iran makes about its nuclear program could cause a number of regional states to intensify these efforts and consider actively pursuing nuclear weapons," the report Global Trends 2025 said. Honour kills do happen to protect the honour of the family and to punish those who fall away or appear to be falling away, even when they are just children in a somewhat rebellious stage of life.

Have you ever thought that perhaps Islam should go through reformation and enlightenment?

Islam is a new religion as Muhammad started receiving recitations in a cave about 610 years after Christ. He was originally run out of Mecca because he preached contrary to Arab tradition and got a following together in Medina to overtake Mecca.

True Muhammad did clean up the Kaaba ( الكعبة ) in Mecca when he returned and cast out about 359 other pagan gods that were worshiped there. Muhammad’s goal with to introduce monotheism into a pagan polytheistic culture. He was influenced by the Jews, Christians, and Persians surrounding the Arabian Peninsula. By the way, allah was one of the 360 pagan gods worshiped in Mecca before Muhammad cleansed the Kaaba. He kept allah and threw out the rest……

It took Muhammad a short 20 years to spread Islam through the Arab peninsula. After his death it took about another 100 - 200 years to spread Islam (by the sword) from Spain to India. The Kafir ( كافر ) eventually cast out the radical Islamists (who incidentally have tried to restore the Islamic Golden Age Caliphate). It is the desire of the new generation of radical Islamists to reestablish the Caliphate.

It is my desire that the multitude of moderate Muslims go through a reformation and enlightenment and excommunicate the radicals from their mists.

The people of the book should not have to pay Jizya or submit to the will of allah as some radical Islamists believe. We should be discussing oppression and bigotry by some in the religion of peace. If one would explore how Kafir are treated in some Islamic countries one would realize the extent of disregard for non believers. The twisted and corrupted teachings of Muhammad have caused much pain and suffering to the non-believers…..

In America we are very tolerant and accommodating to all religions and do not restrict Muslim worship. At times, their religious views run contrary to American tradition. I say they should learn to accept American traditions and modify their views (not values) to assimilate into America.

On the whole Muslims are good decent people and I have neighbors who are Muslim. They work in the the stores that I shop at, drive public transportation, and work in all aspects of the private sector. Most all are very industrious and have the American dream.

I am not a bigot. Actually I am compassionate toward moderate Muhammadans. The rest of the radical Muhammadans should be locked away or dispatched to hell, where they cannot hurt anyone including moderates and Kafir.

This morning, he told ABC that it’s time for the “wealthy” to “jump in.” His words exactly:
“We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of the middle class people.”
The interviewer then said… “So anyone making more than $250,000…”
Biden cuts in: “Is going to pay MORE!”
Interview: “…to pay more?”
Biden: “You got it! It’s time to be patriotic. Okay? Time to jump in. Time to be part of the deal. Time to get America out of the rut.”
Does Joe Biden think that rich people HAVEN’T been paying taxes all this time?!
Remember when Barrack Obama said that he was against American pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps??

OIC to move UNGA against caricatures

ISLAMABAD: A resolution against the publication of blasphemous caricatures of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) in various countries will be presented in the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), an Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) representative said on Tuesday.

“The resolution will demand legislation against the publication of blasphemous caricatures of revered personalities and derogatory remarks against religions. It will also demand [sacrilegious] actions be declared a crime,” OIC Secretary General’s Special Representative on Kashmir Ezzat Kamel Mufti told a news conference.

Mufti said a particular group in America and the European Union had been launching attacks against Islam. “However, we should not get emotional and resort to any kind of violence, including suicide bombings,” he said.

Well folks, not long ago, (some Islamist) Muhammadan clerics got the United Nations to go along with a ban the criticism of Islam in Islamic countries. Now they have upped the ante and have their agenda set on more goals. The UN may endorse making criticism of Islam a crime.

It appears to me that there is a double standard, Islamist talking trash about Kafirs, but, petitioning to make it a no no for Kafirs to discuss Islamists.

Lest we forget Honour Killings

It has been two weeks since the Fox News special hosted by Megyn Kelly regarding honour killings; Unimaginable crimes — fathers killing daughters, brothers killing sisters — to restore their family's "honour"

I sincerely hope that we do not forget Sarah and Amina Said who were allegedly shot and killed by their father, Yaser Said and the other senseless “honor killings.”

Yaser Said needs to be brought to justice. If Yaser Said is convicted, I believe that those who harboured him and/or helped him escape should be rounded up and deported as enemies of freedom.

To my islamic friends, "If you come to America, you should assimilate into our culture and develop a tolerance for others instead of following the teaching of that lunatic caravan raider." If one does not assimilate and remains living under 7th century ideals made up by a certain caravan raider, there will undoubtedly be a clash of civilizations and needless bloodshed.

Let us not forget Sarah and Amina Said and others who were needlessly murdered by 7th century throwbacks following that teachings of a certain pedophile, murderer, and caravan raider, curse his evil soul.

It's War - Call it What it is: War on Islam

After 9/11 we declared a War on Terror and it sparked a uniting of Americans that was too long coming. We've been able to define "Terror" now for several years and we know the terror to be Islam. WorldNetDaily quotes "a top commander for al-Qaida:"

"Islam does not distinguish between the American people and the American government, since both are in a state of war with Islam," Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid said in a recent interview.

He is right. This is a War on Islam in response to Islam's War on America, Islam's War on Freedom and Liberty, Islam's War on Infidels, Islam's War on Democracy - and just to be clear, Islam brought it to America years ago.

The difference between Islam's thinking and a thinking American is that Americans will be suspicious of, and fight back against, those Muslims supporting the downfall of America. We won't pin it on our next door neighbor unless he is found to be actively anti-American. We won't pin it on the Muslim children in our community, but we will hold their parents responsible for dispelling the Islamic agenda of hate toward us, we won't pin it on our co-worker unless she demonstrates a disdain for us - sees us as an infidel, but we will always be suspicious of the Mosques in our community - because we have no other choice.

I won't use the impotent and futile term "War on Terror" again. From now on it is the War on Islam - a hateful ideology, a hateful oppressive form of government, a seething desire to eliminate all things non-Islamic.

I'm declaring it for my blog.

Most of the mainstream media has ignored the alleged story regarding Edwards. Could this really be sensationalism. Edward's wife has cancer and he has small children. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who has been hurt by the Enquirer story.

Edwards is currently not a presidential contender. I seem to recall that John F. Kennedy’s affairs were not given much press coverage at the time that they allegedly occurred. Tysons Foods in Tennessee cans Labor Day and grants Eid al-Fitr the holiday closing Ramadan

According to World Net Daily and Shelbyville Times - Gazette, food workers at the Shelbyville, Tenn., plant for Tyson Foods, which boasts on its corpo,rate website that it strives "to honor God," will have time off for Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday closing the month of Ramadan, instead of the American tradition Labor Day.

Officials with the company told WND the labor union representing the 1,200 plant workers, including about 700 immigrants from Somalia who largely are Muslim, sought the holiday change in the new five-year contract, and the company agreed.

To the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, Gary Mickelson, Tyson's media chief, said there is no new holiday, but at the union's request the company agreed to discontinue the Labor Day holiday and implement Eid al-Fitr.

I just received this email from a good friend over at Islam in Action regarding Islam.

As I surf the net I see many Christians standing up for the ideology of Islam. Most of them have not done any research on Islam. They have been told by Muslims, that Islam is a religion of peace.
One has to ponder this, if it were true, why are Christians and Jews being persecuted across the Islamic world? It appears to me that we need to examine radicalized Islam to see the apparent dangers in countries dominated by or becoming dominated.
There appears an eventual metamorphosis toward destroying other religions. Examine the current happenings in the UK, here and here
Monotheist and Polytheist religions need to examine their fate and that of their families future generations. Atheists and others may not escape the wrath.
In just a two day period let us look at what has happened to Christians stuck under Islamic rule.
Somalia 7/28/08 A Christian convert was shot to death with a AK-47 by two Muslim men. The reason....all because he would not face Mecca when praying. When his wife heard the news of her husbands murder she went into premature labour and gave birth to a stillborn baby. The Somali constitution discourages the promotion and propagation of any religion other than Islam.......
Jakarta Indonesia 7/28/08 A Protestant school in Jakarta was stormed by a mob of Muslims injuring 265 students. Many with head injuries and others burnt by Molotov cocktails.....
Iran 7/29/08 16 Christian converts were arrested and some beaten. The crime was converting to Christianity......
Funny how Muslims always tell us that Islam is a religion of tolerance, but the actions of some Muslims always show the opposite. A bill has gone to Iranian Parliament there calling for the death penalty of anyone who leaves Islam. (Similar to Saudi Arabia regarding Apostasy). Such is freedom.

True, individually these are isolated incidents, but, if one overlays all the violent incidents involving religions living under Islamic rule (or raising Islamic rule) one must ponder: Is Islam a religion of peace? A religion of dominance? A religion of submission? A religion of tolerance? A religion that will allow other monotheistic, polytheistic, atheists, and agnostics to co-exist peacefully under its rule?

It is a lesson in discernment and critical thinking that escapes most on the left, and specifically this prosaic, anti-intellectual Timesonline columnist.

The first half of Marrin's piece details recent poll results revealing the extremist leaning of Muslim students in England and it is alarming information, indeed. These poll results show, for instance, that four out of ten Muslim
students in Britain support Sharia law in the UK. One third said that killing in the name of religion was justified. It shows that a quarter think women are not equals to men. The poll also shows that, among other results, 57% believe
Muslim soldiers in the British army should be allowed to opt out of the war on terror. This alarming YouGov poll was released on Monday, July 28.

The headline on the website of German magazine Der Spiegel about Barack Obama's speech in Berlin: "Huge Crowds Left with Mixed Feelings." Two hundred thousand turned out for the speech, but CNN's Candy Crowley reported an "absence of euphoria" at the event. As Senator Obama went global with "Yes, we can" and "Change we can believe in" he left at least some of the horde in Berlin scratching their heads. Perhaps these Germans, out to hear what all the excitement was about, were looking for leadership and substance rather than kumbaya.

A MILITANT Islamic group has threatened to attack the Beijing Olympics with suicide bombers and biological weapons and has claimed responsibility for a string of fatal bombings and explosions in China over recent weeks.

US general warns Russia on nuclear bombers in Cuba

It appears that the cold war is escalating with Russia as of late. In June 2008, the Washington Times reported that Russian TU-95 bombers have stepped up provocative flight exercises off the Alaskan coast, reminiscent of Cold War incursions designed to rattle U.S. air defenses. Apparently, TU-95 Bear bombers on 18 occasions the past year have skirted a 12-mile air defense identification zone that protects Alaska.

We are seeing with more frequency Russian warplane overfights on US Navy warships operating in international waters. Russia signed an agreement to sell advanced weapons systems to Chavez' Marxist government in Venezuela. Now according the AP, Russia announced plans to fly bombers into Cuba. A top US Air Force officer warned that Russia would cross "a red line for the United States of America" if it were to base nuclear capable bombers in Cuba.

About two or three years ago I laid out Chavez ambitions based on some discussion was a colleague, Kenneth Rijock, about our little fat friend Hugo. Now Hugo is flush with oil money and has an extensive shopping list.

Hugo is buddies with Kim Jung II of North Korea and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. This guy, Hugo Chavez, is destined to ruin our day. I suspect our liberal socialist buddies are going dance in the streets of New York with joy that America is going to be brought to its knees.

Nicaragua is an the Marxist mend. Hugo Chavez buddy, Danny Ortega, is in charge again.

Mexico is being slowly taken over by drug cartels. Hezbollah has a firm stronghold in South America.

Anyone here have any amplifying in information?

The apparent controversy regarding the Saudi Academy may be a misunderstanding, poor translation of what was in the textbook(s), and/or al-Taqiyya.

I sure wish I knew what is going on.......

Don't worry folks apparently the book(s) in question only attacked what al- Qur'an القرآن ‎terms "people of the book" (Jews and Christians) and other non-believers. It does not reference politically correct liberal apologists (not yet anyway).

The New Yorker Cartoon, another con job

My friends over at Stop the ACLU have have been discussing the New Yorker cover picture depicting Presidential contender Barack Hussein Obama, Jr, in a turban, fist-bumping his gun-slinging wife with an American flag burns in their fireplace here and here.

Of course, the New Yorker says it’s satire. The left says it is evil, racist, and a low-blow smear campaign. The right is having a good chuckle and probably will have a good time with the pix.

According to Politico, The Obama campaign is condemning as “tasteless and offensive” a New Yorker magazine cover. The Obama campaign quickly condemned the rendering. Spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement: “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama’s right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree.”

The way I see it, this may be well orchestrated plan to place their Messiah completely into victim status.

The Jesse Jackson gaff that was leaked after a FoxNews show was directed at white liberals to facilitate them to see that Obamination in a down trodden colored liberal who they (the white liberals) can flock around in guilt to support. Lets face it about 80 - 90% of Black America will vote for Obamination regardless of what Jackson says or doesn’t say.

The continued notion that Obamination is a victim has been running the leftist circuit for months. Heck, Bill and Hillary Clinton openly victimized Obama and took the focus off the Messiah of the leftist party. They wittingly or unwittingly contributed to his success.

Well, the New Yorker is now painting Obamination as a victim. There has been so much speculation about radical and islamic ties throughout the whole campaign process so far. I suspect this is designed to rally the Left and Liberal base and help distract them from Obomination's counter gaffs.

Russian bombers have stepped up provocative flight exercises off the Alaskan coast, reminiscent of Cold War incursions designed to rattle U.S. air defenses. U.S. Northern Command, which protects North American airspace, told The Washington Times that TU-95 Bear bombers on 18 occasions the past year have skirted a 12-mile air defense identification zone that protects Alaska.

The incursions prompted F-15s and F-22 Raptor fighters to scramble from Elmendorf Air Force Base and intercept the warplanes.

The last incident happened in May. Moscow's sophisticated show of force has some in the Pentagon paying more attention to the long-term goals of a Russian military, which is being rebuilt with proceeds from the country's huge oil and gas revenues. NORAD is more sensitive than ever to wayward aircraft, given the Sept. 11 attacks by hijackers and the lack of military coordination at the time to track, and perhaps destroy, the planes.

Mr. McInerney said the incursions are the most sophisticated since the Cold War. The retired general called the exercises "coordinated attacks coming into our air defense identification zone. These incursions are far more sophisticated than anything we had seen before." He said the Russian army air force is launching Bear bombers from Tiksi on the Arctic Ocean and Anadyr in Siberia. Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts treated Father Michael Pfleger to a fawning "exclusive" interview on Thursday in which she mostly ignored his radical comments and lauded the "maverick priest," describing him as "not someone to be silenced." Although a previous segment featured a single clip of Pfleger's sermon at the former church of Barack Obama where he viciously attacked Senator Hillary Clinton, Roberts ignored other, more inflammatory remarks by the priest, such as his assertion, made on the same day as the Clinton attack, that "America has been raping people of color and America has to pay the price for the rape!" Of course, Roberts didn't mention this quote. Instead, she spun Pfleger as someone who is "passionate about the Word" and lauded the anti-crime and poverty work he's done. At one point, Roberts affectionately stated that "despite being knocked down," the Chicago priest will continue to wrestle with real problems. Seeming to admire his defiance, the journalist also extolled: "But you also said [in a recent sermon] that you are -- you're not someone to be silenced."

Just yesterday Islam in Action reported the rape of a non-Muslim girl in Brussels, for not wearing a headscarf. Today, Islam in Action reported that there is more Islamic hostility brewing in Brussels.

A group of Moroccan youths rioted and attacked a group of white supporters of the football club RSC Anderlecht. The evening before the attack, a blog had called for attacks on the "white" supporters of the club, and "to burn pubs, houses and cars." It seems that radical Mohammedans are once again causing problems with host country Kafirs.

Perhaps we should toward Europe to see if what is happening there may be coming our way. There were the Islamic French riots of 2005 which spread to at least 30 towns and cities, once again in 2007, the Islamic Denmark riots which spread to at least 20 towns and were little reported by the media and now this. It is fair to say that a plague appears to be slowly spreading across Europe.

My questions are:

Can it happen here in America?
Will we learn from European mistakes?
Who is responsible for the violence?

Brussels girl raped for not wearing a veil

The Islamic rape epidemic in Europe continues. As a young woman of 21 years of age was attacked and raped at a train station in Brussels. She was told they were doing this because she was not wearing a veil (it was her fault).
Once again radical Mohammedans show us that they are not in our countries to assimilate. Radical Mohammedans are here to force their religion and culture on us. All great monotheistic and polytheists religions (except for Islam) have gone through reformation and enlightenment to weed out man made roadblocks.
Can some one please tell me:

Why we continue to allow some of the more radical fundamentalists Mohammedans into our non-Islamic countries?
How can we screen out the problems?
When will we learn how to screen them out?
When are the moderate Mohammedans going to say enough is enough and excommunicate those who are bringing discredit to their "peaceful" religion?

Justice Kennedy Screws the Children

Ronald Reagan’s second mistake, Justice Anthony Kennedy (the first was Sandra Day O’Connor), put the screws to children who are victims of rape. Kennedy, who is the swing vote in many close decisions, decided that the crime of raping a child is not worthy of the death penalty thereby ensuring that those who rape children will live their lives cared for in jails at taxpayer expense (and possibly be released) while the victims will live their lives with emotional and psychological damage.

To Kennedy and the other liberals on the court (he might as well be one, he acts like it) there are no crimes that warrant the death penalty except murder and many of them oppose it in that case as well. To them, raping a child is something that should be punished with jail time which means anything short of life without parole would allow the offender to gain freedom and rape again. Justice Alito wrote the dissenting opinion. Here is part of it and it makes the most sense:

“The Court today holds that the Eighth Amendment categorically prohibits the imposition of the death penalty for the crime of raping a child. This is so, according to the Court, no matter how young the child, no matter how many times the child is raped, no matter how many children the perpetrator rapes, no matter how sadistic the crime, no matter how much physical or psychological trauma is inflicted, and no matter how heinous the perpetrator’s prior criminal record may be. The Court provides two reasons for this sweeping conclusion: First, the Court claims to have identified “a national consensus” that the death penalty is never acceptable for the rape of a child;second, the Court concludes, based on its “independent judgment,” that imposing the death penalty for child rape is inconsistent with “‘the evolving standards of decency that mark the progress of a maturing society.’” Ante, at 8, 15, 16 (citation omitted). Because neither of these justifications is sound, I respectfully dissent.”

If a person who rapes a child is released and rapes again I assume that the flawed opinion of Kennedy and the others will be little consolation to the victim and his parents. I think if a person who rapes a child (in a state that had the death penalty for the offense) is released and rapes another child, the members of the court who allowed it should be hanged in front of the Supreme Court building. The idea is for laws to protect the public and this ruling does nothing to accomplish that. If it were my child they might not make it to the hanging.

While I am disgusted with the ruling in this case I actually have no feeling one way or the other about putting a criminal to death for raping a child because that can be accomplished anywhere regardless of what the court says. When the animal is sent to jail put him in the general population and let them know what he is in for. He will be killed in jail and the problem will be solved and with no appeals.

I cannot imagine what children must go through after they are raped and it is just as hard on the families. It makes it even harder when the courts rule that the criminal somehow has more rights than the victim. The criminal must be afforded a stretch of the VIIIth Amendment to stay alive while a child, who was subjected to cruel and unusual punishment at the hands of the attacker, must go through life bearing the scars. If some person who raped a child were released I would not blame any victim’s father who decided to remove the trash from this Earth. If I were on that jury he would walk away a free man.

Kennedy and the others are worried about cruel and unusual punishment. The death penalty is too good for these scumbags. They should be hanged, drawn and quartered (the criminals, not the justices, though that might not be a bad idea).

America, these justices are no where as liberal as those Barack Obama will appoint if he becomes president. There will likely be a few openings in the next president’s term. It is important that those positions are filled with justices who will not use public sentiment and personal feelings when interpreting the Constitution. We need more like those who were in the minority on this vote.

Be careful how you vote. Your vote has many more consequences than just putting someone in office.

The criticism, to be aired Tuesday on Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program, comes shortly after an Obama aide suggested a meeting at the organization's headquarters here, said Tom Minnery, senior vice president for government and public policy at Focus on the Family.
The conservative Christian group provided The Associated Press with an advance copy of the pre-taped radio segment, which runs 18 minutes and highlights excerpts of a speech Obama gave in June 2006 to the liberal Christian group Call to Renewal. Obama mentions Dobson in the speech.
"Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?" Obama said. "Would we go with James Dobson's or Al Sharpton's?" referring to the civil rights leader.
Dobson took aim at examples Obama cited in asking which Biblical passages should guide public policy - chapters like Leviticus, which Obama said suggests slavery is OK and eating shellfish is an abomination, or Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, "a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application." It certainly appears to me that Barry has a screw loose. But, that is my opinion and mine alone. I'll let you arrive at your own conclusions. Does he or doesn't he distort the bible? Does he or doesn't he push a "fruitcake intepretation" of the Constitution?

JERUSALEM – Some have been taking issue with largely unnoticed comments made last year by Sen. Barack Obama declaring the U.S. is "no longer a Christian nation" but is also a nation of others, including Muslims and nonbelievers.

The comments have been recently recirculating on Internet blogs.

"Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation. At least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers," Obama said during a June 2007 speech available on YouTube.

At the speech, Obama also seemingly blasted the "Christian Right" for hijacking religion and using it to divide the nation:

"Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked. Part of it's because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, who've been all too eager to exploit what divides us," he said.

I've been planning on saying this for a long time. I really hate it when I hear people calling other people Kool-Aid drinkers to describe them as crowd followers.

Conservatives refer to Liberals as Kool-Aid drinkers. Liberals refer to Conservatives as Kool-Aid drinkers. In my humble opinion, Liberals may drink Kool-Aid, but it must be laced with hallucinogens. That's the only logical explanation I know of for their lunatic notions.

And I understand the origin of the term. I know the term originated with Jim Jones and Jonestown, when he managed to convince over 900 of his followers to drink poisoned Kool-Aid in a mass suicide.
I get it.

I understand the term now applies to all those people so committed to a political cause or candidate that they senselessly ignore facts in conflict with their political viewpoint.
But I like Kool-Aid.

I am a Kool-Aid drinker and proud of it. But it has nothing to do with my political ideology.

If you want to classify Sheeple Liberals with some kind of catchy term, how about using the phrase, "Lemming mentality bleeding heart Liberal sob sisters"?

Oh Yeah! Works for me!

Obama plays the race card

It seems that the most liberal presidential hopeful in the history of this republic is playing the race card. By predicting that Republicans will try to make voters afraid of him because he's black, he is essentially playing the race card. Lets see if the American voting public will figure this out.

Obama: GOP Will Play Race Card

Playing the race card is an idiomatic phrase referring to an allegation raised against a person who has brought the issue of race or racism into a debate, perhaps to obfuscate the matter. It is a metaphorical reference to card games in which a trump card may be used to gain an advantage.

Lets see if the American voting public will figure out Obamanation. At this point, I am not sure if Obamanation thinks the voting American public is stupid, or, perhaps his spin masters in the media will put what he says 'off limits' like they have everything else. Obamanation has some serious issues regarding truth and consequences.

Lets hope that McCain will be able to turn the election in his favor. I sincerely believe that McCain is the lesser of the evils democrat/ liberal candidates. I just wish that the republicans and conservatives had chosen a guy from their own party during the nomination process.

Oregon School bans Pledge of Allegiance, not to Offend Muslims

One dhimmi elementary school principal in Oregon has banned the Pledge of Allegiance, so as not to offend Muslims. Slowly they chip away at life as we know it.

If this does not stop. Eventually Bibles and all non-Islamic religious symbols will be banned. All for a group of people who have never heard the expression "respect is a two-way street". When will this madness end? Read the following article, Pledge of Allegiance:

(CBS) Most children growing up in the US memorize the Pledge of Allegiance. But, in one Oregon elementary school, the kids won't be allowed to recite it at an end of the year assembly.
The principal banned it that day so as not to offend Muslims.
One resident of Portland, Oregon was a little surprised when she received an e-mail from her stepson's school principal.
The e-mail said that the children would not be reciting the pledge because of its reference to God. Instead, the students would memorize and sing the Preamble to the United States Constitution.
But it's not just non-Muslims who were offended.
At least one Muslim community leader says he feels the same way. Muhammad Najieb says that 'God' is central to the Muslim faith, and there are several references to him in every prayer.
Portland school officials say the principal was trying to be sensitive, but some Muslims say the ban caused hurt feelings, and may foster bitterness and division within the community.

Nujood Ali is her name and this brave young lady strolled into a Yemeni Court all by herself to seek a divorce. She is just a child of ten years old, who was given away by her family, to marry a Muslim who is in his thirties. This lowlife beat her and forced sex upon her.

Instead of becoming a shell of a person, and taking a lifetime of abuse. She found the strength to fight back and she did it with in the law. She now has opened the door for other young ladies whose Muslim families have forced a life of pain on their daughters. I believe this is one of the biggest fears of Muslim men. That the women finally revolt. Can you imagine if millions of Muslim women in the Middle East would stand up and say enough is enough!! No more abuse, no more of this four wives nonsense. It is just me and only me and you will show me respect.

Incidentally according to the LA Times article:

Publicity surrounding Nujood's case prompted calls to raise the legal age for marriage to 18 for both men and women. Yemen's conservative lawmakers refused to take up the issue. But the case sparked public discussion and newspaper headlines. Several more child brides came forward, including a girl who sought a divorce last week in the southern city of Ibb.

Islam would implode. I know it is Father's Day. But her father deserves nothing but a lifetime in jail. As for her, let's all say a prayer. That she does not get shunned and abused by the community she lives in. God bless this little girl.

If you're tired of spending money like water on gas, maybe you'd just rather spend money on water, period.

That's what you'll be doing if a Japanese firm has its way.

A company called Genepax, dedicated to finding ways to turn water into power, has unveiled what it calls the first practical car to run solely on H20. The firm claims putting just a litre of water from any source - tap, rain or river - is enough to keep its automobile going for 60 minutes at a respectable speed of 80 kilometres an hour.

And forget about finding a gas station when you're running on empty. "The car will continue to run as long as you have a bottle of water to top up from time to time," Genepax CEO Kiyoshi Hirasawa told a local Japanese broadcaster after demonstrating the test vehicle in Osaka. "It does not require you to build up an infrastructure to recharge your batteries, which is usually the case for most electric cars."

According to the company, the water gets poured into a tank at the back of the car and uses a generator to break it down and convert it to electrical power. It's a completely different approach from the big automakers, who are looking at fuel cells that run on hydrogen as the next power source. Ironically, they emit water from the exhaust, not use it to run the vehicle.

Genepax can't say yet when you'll be taking one of their cars for a spin but like all these future fuels, their arrival seems to be off in the distance. They've just applied for a patent on the system and can't say when - or if - it will ever actually hit the showrooms.

But they're in talks with Japanese automakers about the idea and hope it will one day water down your need to ever visit a gas station - with its non-stop climbing prices - again.

According to Engadget :

We've seen plenty of promises about water-powered cars (among other things), but it looks like Japan's Genepax has now made some real progress on that front, with it recently taking the wraps off its Water Energy System fuel cell prototype. The key to that system, it seems, is its membrane electrode assembly (or MEA), which contains a material that's capable of breaking down water into hydrogen and oxygen through a chemical reaction. Not surprisingly, the company isn't getting much more specific than that, with it only saying that it's adopted a "well-known process to produce hydrogen from water to the MEA." Currently, that system costs on the order of ¥2,000,000 (or about $18,700 -- not including the car), but company says that if it can get it into mass production that could be cut to ¥500,000 or less (or just under $5,000).

US: No Central Tracking of Americans Murdered in Mexico

(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. State Department does not do centralized oversight of the criminal cases arising from the murders of U.S. citizens in Mexico.

The U.S. embassy and consulates in Mexico are responsible for monitoring the cases, but they are not required to report back to Washington about them. As a result, State Department officials in Washington cannot say whether Mexican authorities have arrested or convicted anyone in the cases of the more than 100 Americans murdered in that country over a three-year period.

"Offices in our Mission to Mexico (the embassy, 9 consulates, and consular agencies) gather and monitor information about criminal proceedings in cases where Americans are victims, including many cases where family members may ask for assistance in following those proceedings," a State Department official told Cybercast News Service Wednesday.

However, the official said that requiring the consulates and other agencies to report back to Washington on these cases would distract staff from efforts to help Americans in Mexico.

"The Department does not centralize these efforts, instead allowing our offices to focus their attention on providing consular services to American citizens rather than on reporting to Washington," the official told Cybercast News Service.

Cybercast News Service has been investigating the deaths of U.S. citizens in Mexico, which the State Department referred to in a travel alert that was initially posted on its Web site in April and that is still listed as current as of today. The alert says that "dozens of U.S. citizens were kidnapped and/or murdered in Tijuana in 2007." (See alert)

"U.S. citizens are urged to be especially alert to safety and security concerns when visiting the border region," the alert says.
The alert also says: "Criminals are armed with a wide array of sophisticated weapons. In some cases, assailants have worn full or partial police or military uniforms and have used vehicles that resemble police vehicles."

Statistics from the Current Report of Non-Natural Death Cases Abroad (January 1, 2005-December 31, 2007) show that 128 U.S. citizens were either murdered or executed in Mexico. A majority of those murders (68) took place in Mexican cities on the U.S. border, and another 12 took place elsewhere in Mexican states bordering the U.S. (See report)

In contrast to its protocol for handling murder cases in Mexico, the State Department regularly publishes detailed reports on other human rights violations in countries around the world, including a 292-page report on human trafficking it released this month. In an introduction to the report, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said it is the eighth such report and the "most comprehensive to date," covering 170 countries.

"We are pleased that in the seven years since the creation of the Department of State's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, the United States and our friends and allies have made important strides in confronting the reality that human beings continue to be bought and sold in the 21st century," Rice wrote.

Foreign Terrorists Have Constitutional Rights

- In a major blow to the Bush administration, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 on Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have the right under the U.S. Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts.

The detainees affected by Thursday's ruling includes 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the court, said, "The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times." Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter and John Paul Stevens joined Kennedy to form the majority.

In dissent, Chief Justice John Roberts criticized his colleagues for striking down what he called "the most generous set of procedural protections ever afforded aliens detained by this country as enemy combatants." Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas also dissented.

Scalia said the nation is "at war with radical Islamists" and that the court's decision "will make the war harder on us. It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed."

Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) said his initial reaction is one of concern for U.S. troops on the battlefield:

If foreign enemies rounded up on the battlefield now have access to U.S. federal courts and have the same protections as American citizens under the Constitution -- "what does this say to an American solider who captures one of these terrorists on the battlefield... in terms of collecting evidence, the rights of the person that he's captured?" Hoekstra asked.

He was interviewed Thursday on Fox News, moments after the ruling came down.

The Bush administration -- faced with the problem of what to do with "enemy combatants" who wear no uniform and cannot be considered prisoners of war -- in 2002 set up a military detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba -- putting the suspects beyond the reach of U.S. courts.

But in June 2004, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the reach of the U.S. courts did extend to the detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

In 2006, the Supreme Court ruled that President Bush exceeded his authority when he ordered war crimes trials for Gitmo detainees.

Congress subsequently passed the Military Commissions Act in December 2006. The law established procedures governing the use of military commissions to try "alien unlawful enemy combatants engaged in hostilities against the United States."

At the first military tribunal hearing -- which took place last week -- Khalid Sheik Mohammed requested a death sentence so he can become a martyr.

Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, has said he would close Guantanamo Bay, because it has projected an image around the world that is detrimental to America's reputation. "I would move those prisoners to Fort Leavenworth. And I would proceed with the tribunals," McCain told CBS News last year.

Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate, also wants to close Guantanamo, but unlike McCain, he rejects military tribunals for the detainees:

"As President, I will close Guantanamo, reject the Military Commissions Act, and adhere to the Geneva Conventions," Obama said last summer in Washington. "Our Constitution and our Uniform Code of Military Justice provide a framework for dealing with the terrorists."

Obama; Faith Healer and Friend to the Middle East

Senator Obama's speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was good. It made his sound so strong and confident (and a supporter of the Jews). The future of Jerusalem is secure with Obama at the helm.

“Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided,” he said to thunderous applause. Israelis and their supporters in the United States responded warmly to a bold, unequivocal proclamation that went well beyond the positions of the Bush or Clinton administrations – positions which have always endorsed key Israeli concessions on Jerusalem. .

Well this calculated political comment to AIPAC really pissed off the Muslim and Palestinian streets across the Middle East. They denounced our new found hero of the Israeli cause.

However, what did Obama really mean? Does he believe he is chief deal maker in the Middle East who can make deals and set the course? Does he really have the power and gonads to heal the Middle East or screw the pooch? I wonder what type of speech would he is giving or has given to Arab groups?

Remember this is the guy who sent some very mixed signals in regards to NAFTA. He opposes it and he supports it. Sounds like John Kerry voting before something before he votes against it,or was it, voting against before he votes for it. Who the hell knows. I smell some type of stink every time either one of these wannabe king makers opens their mouths.

So, Where’s Obama on Israel and the Palestinians? On both sides, depending on who is listening or who he is talking with. Maybe he does believe that Jerusalem should be undivided (Just who does he think it should really belong to?) If I were a voting American Jew, I would be a little more skeptical and think about it before I pulled the lever on Obama.

I have been told that Muslims were coming into the West for the freedoms here. If this were true then why are they slowly turning the West into the Middle East part 2, as they form their own communities in non Islamic countries and start enforcing their own rules? The answer is simple, they do not respect non-Muslims and have no intentions of assimilating.

(What a community policeman told two Christians)

Two Christian preachers were stopped from handing out Bible extracts by police because they were in a Muslim area, it was claimed yesterday.

They say they were told by a Muslim police community support officer that they could not preach there and that attempting to convert Muslims to Christianity was a hate crime.

The community officer is also said to have told the two men: 'You have been warned. If you come back here and get beat up, well, you have been warned.'

A police constable who was present during the incident in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham is also alleged to have told the preachers not to return to the district.

It comes amid growing concern over the development of Islamic 'no-go areas'.
The preachers, Americans Arthur Cunningham and Joseph Abraham, are demanding an apology and compensation from West Midlands Police.
They say their treatment breaks the Human Rights Act, which guarantees freedom of religious expression.

'Why We Serve'

When I was younger, I tried to join the Navy because I needed to learn discipline, I needed order in my life. I knew I was headed down the wrong path. Unfortunately, my prior eye operation kept me out of the Navy, but there are so many people who have shared their stories with us and I believe they should be told all over the web. Why? Because we will not hear it in the press.

Why We Serve is a speakers outreach program intended to re-connect the men and women of the United States Armed Forces with those they serve: The American people.

One of these special people who shares his experience with us is Captain Doug Traversa, who has a blog named Afghanistan Without A Clue (AWAC). Here is an excerpt from his statement:

My path to military service and my current assignment in Afghanistan is rather unusual, but it just shows that those of us defending our country are as different and unique as the general populous. When I was growing up, joining the military did not seem so far-fetched. My father was an Air Force officer, and I was a huge military buff most of my childhood through high school and college. I studied World War II, built models from the period, and memorized all sorts of military trivia.

It all started about a year ago. The Air Force was going to be filling Army positions in both Iraq and Afghanistan. That meant that not only would we be deployed for a year, we would have to go to Army Combat Skills Training first. We would be wearing body armor, carrying weapons, and going into harm’s way. You can’t imagine how shocking this was to us in the Air Force. We didn’t do that sort of thing. We did our fighting from airplanes, and those who didn’t fly were stationed well behind enemy lines at air bases. Now we were being thrown into the Army. Yikes! This was scary. I was certainly afraid. In fact, my current boss, Maj Apple, is filling a slot that was turned down by six previous majors. By that I mean they decided to get out of the Air Force rather than do this job. These are guys with 12-15 years of service, and they got out. I don’t say this to insult them, just to show how frightening it was. [Continue reading.]

Doug is very good and decent man. I was on this side of the war while he was on the dangerous side, he wrote in his blog everyday, and he made many friends while he was there. Many Afghanistani friends, as well. He is now home with his sweet wife and darling children along with the abused dogs he continues to adopt until they are ready to be adopted by a satisfactory home.

This is just one of our many heroes who have decided to join the ‘Why We Serve’ team. They speak around the country–not about their mission or the Department of Defense–so that we here in the States may have a deeper understanding of our fighting men and women. Why do they serve? There are as many reasons as there are soldiers! Go ahead. Go read about them. Then write about them. Spread the word.

Iraqis Fear Rapid US Withdrawal Would Cause 'Chaos and Anarchy,' Says Iraqi Parliamentarian

(CNSNews.com) - Most Iraqis support the U.S. troop presence in Iraq and think a rapid withdrawal would lead to "chaos and anarchy," said Adnan Pachachi, a member of the National Assembly of Iraq and a former president of Iraq's Governing Council (IGC), on Friday. He also said that the best policy now lies somewhere between the strategies outlined by Sen. John McCain (r-Ariz.) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

"There is very widespread support for an American presence in the short and intermediate term," said Pachachi, who spoke at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. "The majority or Iraqis feel that a large scale reduction of the troops in the near future will plunge the country into chaos and into anarchy. "

McCain has said that America should maintain its current policy in Iraq while Obama has said he supports a fairly rapid and scheduled withdrawal. When asked about those two positions by Cybercast News Service, Pachachi said that the United States still needed to provide more military support to Iraqi security forces. He added, however, that the best model for Iraq right now is "somewhere in between" the policies of McCain and Obama.

"I think we have to help the new Iraqi government to really take over the responsibility for security by helping it to organize the armed forces so that they can be relied on to do their job," he said.

McCain's campaign Web site states that he thinks withdrawal should not occur before "Iraqi forces can safeguard their own country."

While Obama and Clinton both say they favor withdrawal, none has offered a definitive plan or timetable. NBC's Tim Russert asked Obama and Clinton during the Sept. 26, 2007, Democratic presidential debate if they would pledge to withdraw U.S. combat troops by 2013 should one of them be elected president. Neither Obama nor Clinton would make the pledge, saying there were too many variables involved to make such a commitment at that time.

Pachachi said that he was in Baghdad less then a week ago and, despite general unrest across the country he did see signs of improvement in security.

"I can confirm that the overall security situation has improved some what," he said. "But overall security in Iraq is still fragile and precarious. Even in pacified regions there is anxiety and fear that violence may erupt again because the militias still have their weapons and their infrastructures remains intact."

According to unclassified portions of the National Intelligence Estimate, which was released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in January of 2007, a rapid withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq would cause great insecurity and unrest.

"If coalition forces were withdrawn rapidly during the term of this estimate, we judge that this almost certainly would lead to a significant increase in the scale and scope of sectarian conflict in Iraq, intensify Sunni resistance to the Iraqi Government, and have adverse consequences for national reconciliation," the report said.

Wajeha Al-Huwaidar speaks out against Honour Killings

On April 7, 2007, a teenage Yazidi Kurdish girl named Du'a Al-Aswad was stoned to death by a lynch-mob in Iraq, because she had violated her family's honor. A video of the stoning, filmed by the participants themselves using their mobile phones, was posted on video of stoning.

A year after the stoning, Saudi reformist and human rights activist Wajeha Al-Huweidar wrote a scathing article in which she harshly criticized the sexist character of Arab culture and particularly the phenomenon of "honor killings."

The following are excerpts from her article, which appeared on the reformist website www.aafaq.org .

"This Entire Part of the World [is Full of] Defeated and Dejected Men, Whose Only Way to Feel Victorious Is by Beating Women to Death"

"Last April, a 17-year old Iraqi girl named Du'a Khalil Al-Aswad fell in love with a boy from a different [religious] sect. By this act, she violated the 'honor' of the men in her sect, causing them to go mad with the boiling [rage] of hellfire. Their male [egos] swelled like cancerous tumors, and their minds locked into the primitive madness of 'honor.'

"They filled with restless madness, and in order to relive their anguish, they hurried to sentence poor Du'a to death, and then decided to carry out their sentence in the ugliest possible imaginable, i.e., by public stoning. They killed her with the utmost cruelty and depravity.

"Du'a Al-Aswad is a victim of the wild male madness called 'honor.' This concept is prevalent throughout the Greater Middle East [Al-Sharq Al-Awsat Al-Kabir], or perhaps I should say the Greater Filthy East [Al-Sharq Al-Awsakh Al-Kabir], since it is worthy of this label from every perspective – in particular [when it comes to] the treatment of women. From Pakistan and Afghanistan through Iran, the Middle East, and all the way to Morocco, this entire part of the world [is full of] defeated and dejected men, whose only way to gain some sort of victory is by beating their women to death.

"The depraved men who participated in the stoning of Du'a – all of them [guilty of] premeditated and deliberate murder – were raised to believe that the lives of their women are theirs to control. That is why they competed with one another at stoning Du'a, and fought to film her as she gasped out her last breaths. These horrible men conspired to kill a young girl who had committed no crime and hurt no one. Each of them picked up a boulder and hurled it at her. [Feeling] prideful and glorious, they bashed in this young [girl's] head, and her blood pooled on the ground as she lay there dead...

"But killing her was not enough for them. After she was dead, they mutilated her young body, kicking her and piling more rocks on top of her. Then they broke out in cries of 'Allah akbar,' and 'there is no god but Allah' as though they had just won a strategic battle.

"Not one of them felt pity for her, not one of them lifted a finger to help her, and not one of them [even tries to] speak in her defense. They were like the stones they hurled at her – frozen and devoid of all compassion."

In the Middle East, the Life of a Woman Is Worth Far Less than That of an Animal

"Had Du'a been an animal, someone would have [probably] taken notice and tried to rescue her from these inhuman men. But she was a woman, and in the Greater Filthy East, the life of a woman is worth far less than the life of an animal.

"According to the norms of the East, [the concept of] 'honor' relates only to the behavior of women. Women have become easy prey for men, who murder them in order to restore their threatened sense of honor.

"Du'a is a victim of both men and women – she is a victim of her entire society. In a region that fosters its mens' hostility until it becomes a raging demon, [men come to] feel that the women in their family are their property, to be treated any way they want.

"[This mentality is common among all Middle Eastern] men – Muslim and non-Muslim, Arab and non-Arab, rich and poor, educated and ignorant, great and small, those living in the West and those who have remained in their homelands – as long as they were raised in this region... that is riddled with the disease of 'honor,' or are of [Middle Eastern] origin. [All these men] have the potential to turn into raging beasts, especially if they were raised [to believe that] a woman's body and [her behavior] in her private life have a [direct] bearing on their honor and on the honor of their family, clan, nation, sect and all their ancestors throughout the ages.

"All those who believe that honor [resides] in the woman's body are potential murderers, and [could] someday murder a woman when their false sense of honor is aroused. All those who agree that a man has the right to murder a woman, or to cause her physical harm [for the sake of preserving] his honor, are potential killers."

The Women of the Middle East Raise Their Own Executioners

"Those who believe that men have more rights than women, and raise their children to believe the same, are raising [more] men who will kill another Du'a in some other place. All those who believe that they have the right to hit a woman in order to 'educate' her or 'correct her ways' might be involved in the murder or harming of a woman.

"Any legislator who passes a law dealing leniently with 'honor killings' is just as culpable as those who actively participated in the murder of the victims – [just as culpable as] the murderers who have the blood of Du'a and of other women on their hands.

"All governments that discriminate between men and women in rights and duties, that shelter the perpetrators of 'honor killings,' and that give men either partial or complete control over women's lives... collaborate with the perpetrators of these despicable crimes...

"On the anniversary of the death of the innocent Iraqi girl Du'a Khalil Al-Aswad, murdered in cold blood and in heinous male ferocity in front of eye witnesses, I say to the women of the Greater Filthy East: 'Good for you for managing to raise beasts who delight in harming you and in shedding your blood and the blood of your daughters.' [And] good for the countries and governments that attribute more importance to the lives of animals than to your lives and the lives of your daughters.

"Good for you for defending your beastly men and supporting them on political [issues]. Good for you for supporting their failing movements and wars, and their hostile thinking that allows [them] to humiliate and beat you.
"Good for you for creating your own executioners, and for supporting and aiding them. You know full well that many of them regard you as worthless beings existing [solely] for their pleasure.

"Good for you for [tolerating] these inhuman men, many of whom yearn to drink your blood and the blood of your daughters whenever the drums of revenge and 'honor' start beating in their rotting and petrified brains."

Did Scott McClellan have a Ghost Writer?

Did Scott McClellan have a ghost writer? That is a question has been asked,but, not answered. From what I have heard and excepts that I have seen, the book sounds like a left wing rag on President Bush. According to Robert Novak, in McClellan's purported tell-all memoir of his trials as President George W. Bush's press secretary, he virtually ignored Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage's role leaking to Novak Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA employee. This memoir by McClellan appears to fit the partisan Democratic version of the Plame affair.

Novak went on to say, Although the media response dwelled on McClellan's criticism of Bush's road to war, the CIA leak case is the heart of this book. On July 14, 2003, one day before McClellan took the press secretary's job for which many colleagues felt he was unqualified, my column was published asserting that Plame at the CIA suggested her Democratic partisan husband, retired diplomat Joseph Wilson, for a sensitive intelligence mission. That story made McClellan's three years at the briefing room podium a misery, leading to his dismissal and now his bitter retort. ....In claiming he was misled about the Plame affair, McClellan mentions Armitage only twice. Armitage being the leaker undermines the Democratic theory, now accepted by McClellan, that Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and political adviser Karl Rove aimed to delegitimize Wilson as a war critic. Conservative talk radio is covering Nancy Pelosi remarks that the liberal media would probably rather avoid. Mark Levin on Thursday night and Laura Ingraham on Friday morning both seized on this tidbit from Commentary magazine's Contentions blog. Deep in an interview the House Speaker granted to the editorial board of the hometown San Francisco Chronicle, Abe Greenwald found this eyebrow-raising passage:

"Well, the purpose of the surge was to provide a secure space, a time for the political change to occur to accomplish the reconciliation. That didn't happen. Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn't accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians -- they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities -- the Iranians." Mullen Views Interagency Success in Philippines

ZAMBOANGA, Philippines, June 1, 2008 – The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff saw firsthand here today how the U.S. interagency fight is making progress in this island nation.

Navy Adm. Mike Mullen met American servicemembers of the Joint Special Operations Task Force here, and saw how the U.S. Agency for International Development is helping the Philippine government battle an insurgency.

Civilian agencies of the U.S. government are important assets in the effort to combat terrorism, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and Mullen both have said. They have testified before Congress on the need for more people and money for U.S. civilian agencies, saying long-term aid to at-risk nations is the answer to the question many U.S. legislators ask: “Are we creating more terrorists than we are killing?”

Stopping groups like Jemaah Islamiyah and Abu Sayyaf – both al-Qaida affiliates – from recruiting new members on this Philippine island of Mindanao is a priority of the Philippine government and the United States.

“That’s the path in a place like this,” Mullen said during an all-hands call here. “What has become very evident to me as it should be to you here is security is a necessary condition, but security is not going to get you across home plate. You’ve got to be able to create an economic underpinning.

You’ve got to have good governance. You’ve got to have the rule of law -- all these things that start to sustain themselves.”

U.S. civilian aid to the people of Mindanao dwarfs the military funds. USAID spends $50 million to $60 million a year in the Philippines, with 60 percent coming to this impoverished area. U.S. military aid is pegged at roughly $5 million to $6 million a year.

USAID works with Philippine national and local leaders to develop projects that benefit all the people. The agency has financed digging wells, building roads, rebuilding bridges and constructing schools. “We work closely with the joint task force here,” Jon Lindborg, USAID’s mission director in the Philippines, said in an interview. “We’re able to leverage our money to the best uses.”

The agency is financing improvements to the airports at Tawi-Tawi and in Jolo – both of which also benefit the Philippine armed forces.

USAID works with the joint task force in scheduling medical, dental and veterinary exercises that provide health care to thousands of people. They also work with Navy Seabees who deploy to the islands to build schools and medical clinics. The agency also acts as a bridge for nongovernmental organizations that, for whatever reason, don’t want to work directly with the military.

But USAID is stretched. When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, the United States took a “peace dividend,” Mullen said. While the U.S. military was cut 35 to 40 percent, civilian agencies also were slashed. USAID went from 15,000 employees worldwide to 4,000.

“The U.S. government is not set up for the wars of the 21st century,” Mullen said. “It doesn’t reflect the expeditionary world we’re living in. We haven’t recruited, hired, promoted, trained, educated the people in our civilian agencies for the kind of expeditionary requirements and rotations that we are actually doing right now.”

Both Gates and Mullen have testified that the State Department needs 1,000 more employees and $1 billion more in budget.

USAID, State Department programs that help nations build governance and security assistance to help nations build military capabilities are crucial to the fight in the Philippines and go together in many other poorer nations that face the same problems. The civilian departments need to grow; they need more people, and those people need to deploy at a moment’s notice, Mullen said.

“Until we can do that, the military will pick up the slack, because we can,” Mullen said.

The capability to help nations build good governance is not a core mission for the Defense Department, but it is something the State Department can and does do. Building infrastructure is a mission USAID has done since it started in 1961. Legal attaches from the Justice Department have the expertise to help countries establish the rule of law. The Agriculture Department can help farmers be more bountiful and develop new crops.

Officials at the military joint task force and the U.S. embassy would like to see the group get commanders’ emergency relief program funds.

“We had an incident where Abu Sayyaf burned down homes in central Mindanao, Lee McClenny, the U.S. Embassy spokesman in Manila, said. “If we’d had CERP funds, we could have helped rebuild those houses and made a huge statement against the terrorists.”

Mullen listened to the words of the civilian and military leaders on the ground – “where the rubber meets the road,” he said -- and promised to take their concerns back to Washington.

“The days where a single service, a single department, a single anything can make things happen are behind us,” Mullen said. “It’s got to be integrated, and it’s got to be all of us doing this together.”

The Church of England is divided over a proposed motion for it to proclaim Christianity as the only way to salvation and offer strategies on how to evangelize Muslims. Senior church leaders as well as some Muslim figures have voiced anger at the motion proposed by Paul Eddy – a lay member of the church’s General Synod, according to BBC. Eddy, along with traditionalist Anglicans, argues that the church should stop avoiding hard questions about its beliefs. The Church of England must make it clear that it believes in what the Bible says about Jesus being the only way to salvation, he said.

Currently training to become a priest, Eddy believes that being upfront about the church’s beliefs will be helpful to Muslim-Christian relations. “Most Muslims that I’ve talked to say, ‘I really wish that Christians would stop watering down their faith and expecting us to do the same,’” Eddy said on BBC Radio Four on Sunday. “Until we start really saying what we really believe in our faith, there will be no respect.” Also, Muslims expect Christians to believe that Jesus is the only way to God, Eddy noted. “They will expect us – if we’re true Christians – to try to evangelize them, in the same way they will expect us, if they’re true Muslims, to adopt their faith,” he said. Bishop Fears Radical Islam Will Fill 'Moral Vacuum' in Britain

A senior Church of England bishop claims the erosion of Christianity in Britain is leaving the country with a “moral vacuum” that radical Islam is ready to fill. Writing in the political magazine Standpoint, the Rt. Rev. Dr Michael Nazir-Ali quoted an academic who pointed to the failure of church leaders to prevent Christian values from being substantially eroded in society during the social and sexual revolution of the 60s.

Christianity began to fall to the wayside just as more people of different faiths were starting to settle in Britain, the Pakistani-born Bishop of Rochester added. “It is a situation which has created the moral and spiritual vacuum in which we find ourselves. Whilst the Christian consensus was dissolved, nothing else, except perhaps endless self-indulgence, was put in its place,” he said.

Whereas Marxism failed to take hold in British society, he went on to question whether society could counter radical Islam with the same success. "We are now, however, confronted by another equally serious ideology, that of radical Islamism, which also claims to be comprehensive in scope,” he said. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) believes that on September 11 "we were basically
at peace."
Asked to clarify his remarks, specifically asking about the attacks on the U.S.S. Cole during Barack Obama campaign conference call, Kerry said, "well, we hadn't declared war," The Hill's Sam Youngman reports.

Asked if al Qaeda was a threat at the time, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee said, "well yes, obviously they were a threat. But, fundamentally we were not at war at that point in time."
Kerry also called John McCain "out of step with history and facts."

UPDATE: Responding to Kerry's claim, RNC spokesman Danny Diaz said: "It’s absolutely critical that the next Commander in Chief understands the challenges America faces. Yet it’s clear that Barack Obama has a thin understanding of history and fails to grasp the threat of terrorism."

"After a week’s worth of examples demonstrating Obama’s lack of preparedness to serve as president, his campaign is understandably desperate to shift the focus. Considering it’s now been 873 days since Obama visited Iraq, any suggestion that he even understands what’s happening on the ground is laughable."
