Iranian Weapons Arm Iraqi Militia: Breaking from ABC News

Courtesy of ABC News: WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2006 —  U.S. officials say they have found smoking-gun evidence of Iranian support for terrorists in Iraq: brand-new weapons fresh from Iranian factories. According to a senior defense official, coalition forces have recently seized Iranian-made weapons and munitions that bear manufacturing dates in 2006.  For the rest of the story: Iran and Hezbollah in the fight

Iran's President wrote a letter to all Americans

In his open letter to America on November 29th Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urges the American people to demand the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and reject what he called the U.S. government's "blind support" for Israel and its "illegal and immoral" actions in fighting terrorism. Jihad Watch so eloquently put it:

The Thug-in-Chief devotes most of his letter to trying to convince us that, hey, we're not all that different, a theme also present in his letter to Germany's Angela Merkel.

But note the ending, which contains the familiar call for conversion (required prior to waging war in Islamic law, per Sahih Muslim 019.4294), plus a slap at Christianity in "any partners they ascribe to him": "But those who repent, have faith and do good may receive Salvation. Your Lord, alone, creates and chooses as He will, and others have no part in His choice; Glorified is God and Exalted above any partners they ascribe to Him" (28:67-68).

Civil War

It is sectarian violence. By any classical definition I can think of for the term "civil war", it does not fit what is going on in Iraq. But even if that rhetorical point were conceded over to the anti-war left- because that's really the whole point of the label: to delegitimize the war, and reinforce the argument of "cut-and-run"- as Michael Medved says, "So what?"

In his blogpost today, Medved points out why the haggling over defining the current state of affairs is a moot point:
In Afghanistan in 2001, we entered a long running civil war between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance and helped the good guys to decisive victory within a matter of weeks. No one looked at the situation and said, “Uh-oh, there’s a bloody civil war that’s been going on in that country for years, so the U.S. can’t possibly send its forces!” As a matter of fact, there’s another “civil war” raging in Afghanistan right now –-- a conflict that fits the classic “civil war” model far better than the situation in Iraq. In Afghanistan, there are two clearly recognizable sides (the Taliban and the Karzai government) warring for control. In Iraq, there’s no organized, recognizable, anti-government leadership of the insurgency, no program or even ruling clique that the terrorists seek to impose, no prominent leaders with whom the U.S. and our allies can negotiate or around whom the opposition can rally. The real struggle is governmental authority vs. bloody chaos—and the fact that bloody chaos is winning at the moment doesn’t mean that it’s a civil war.
He and the editorial in Opinion Journal, yesterday, also point out our involvement in Bosnia and Kosovo. Medved goes further in examples throughout our history of interjecting ourselves in the midst of civil wars.

Democrat defeatists and war critic quagmirists, for quite some time have long wanted to label the insurgency a "civil war" almost from the very beginning. SNAFU at One Soldier's Perspective (who is still in Iraq) doesn't see anything different, other than the media's brazen attempts to willfully create the perception they wish for. Of course no one in the media would ever admit it- even to themselves! What American journalist wants to believe that he is helping our enemies? Even as many journalists want to think of themselves as "above the fray", believing that excellence in their profession requires of them to be journalists first, and Americans second. The truth is, journalists and their editorial board are anything but detached, impartial observers. They are as much victims of their own biases as we are victims of their own biases.

Helping the enemy is exactly what the news media does, not only when they blatantly print and televise enemy propaganda, and call it "showing both sides" and "their (i.e., insurgents') perspective"; but also when, during a time of war, all they are showing is the sensationalism....the latest car bombing...the latest IED explosion...the latest sectarian violence. Mudkitty (a very popular commentor on conservative blogs [/sarcasm]- *waves to Mudkitty*) writes,
The fact that someone opens a melon stand is not “news.”
Under normal conditions, it might not be. But during a time of war when morale is important as is America's will to succeed and not live up to the "paper tiger" misnomer, reporting the good news that is also going on in Iraq- i.e. highlighting it, frontpaging it, underscoring it, etc.- is a good thing and even necessary propaganda. Propaganda doesn't have to be dishonest and a negative. What it does, is it provides a balance and a fuller picture of what's going on. Violence is not the only thing going on in Iraq. When the media has created the perception in people's minds of widespread violence in Iraq, rather than a concentration of violence in just 2 or 3 of the 18 provinces, that is misleading and that is dishonest; that (mis)perception needs to be countered by showing the "ordinary" and the "normal"; the "business as usual" that is free from violence. This is when the "not newsworthy" does indeed become "newsworthy". That is why there is nothing shameful about our military offering to pay Iraqi newspapers to report positive stories- so long as those stories are true. What is shameful is that our military not only has to fight this war on one front; but a second front as well, doing the work our 4th estate won't do. How is it that they are accused of presenting only one side, when one side is really all that the dinosaur media ever wants to really talk about? Does it ever occur to to the 4th estate when they behave as a fifth column? They think their behavior during Vietnam was noble; and they seem hellbent on repeating it in today's war. Have they learned nothing? Apparently, just all the wrong lessons of that other war.

C-4 plastic explosives

Demetrius Van Crocker told an undercover agent he wanted sarin nerve agent and C-4 plastic explosives, like those pictured above, for his plot

The details sounded ominously familiar: a down-and-out loner with a professed hatred of the U.S. government dreams of bombing a government building—maybe even the U.S. Capitol—then sets about procuring the ingredients to carry out his scheme.

That was the plan hatched by Tennessee farmer Demetrius Van Crocker, whose views were no secret to people who knew him. But most discounted his extremist rants as just that, the ideological ravings of a former member of the right-wing National Socialist Movement.

Then in 2004, Van Crocker’s plan crystallized—he would buy materials to build a dirty bomb to blow up a state or federal courthouse. At that point a “concerned citizen” took him seriously enough to call the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which in turn called the FBI.

“We thought there might be something to it,” said Special Agent Daryl Berry, who opened the case in September 2004 out of the FBI’s office in Jackson, Tennessee. That set in motion an undercover sting that would reveal just how real today’s threat of domestic terrorism is—and why it remains a top FBI priority.

Berry’s office wired a “cooperating witness,” whose recorded conversations with Van Crocker confirmed his interest in building a dirty bomb to blow up a courthouse. The witness told Van Crocker he could put him in touch with a supplier—an undercover agent posing as a sympathetic military contractor with access to explosives and biological weapons.

“At first he basically came out and said, ‘I don’t know you. How do I know I can trust you,’” said the undercover agent, who met three times with Van Crocker. “But he was highly motivated. If you really want something you will go against your best judgment.”

Convinced his supplier was legit, Van Crocker told the undercover agent he wanted sarin nerve agent and C-4 plastic explosives. The agent said he would need $500 upfront to bribe a guard at an Arkansas weapons arsenal. Van Crocker gave him the money and then set up a meeting in a hotel where the transaction would take place.

FBI agents were waiting when Van Crocker showed up on October 25, 2004 to close the deal. The undercover agent, toting a bag of wrapped plastic explosives and an inert canister of the sarin agent, met Van Crocker and the agents closed in.

A search of Van Crocker’s home turned up components for pipe bombs, a cache of loaded weapons, and right-wing paraphernalia. It took a jury 90 minutes to convict Van Crocker in April on five counts of trying to acquire chemical weapons and explosives to destroy government buildings. He was sentenced November 28 to 30 years in prison.

The case stands as an example of how far tips from the public go toward protecting the U.S. from terrorists, abroad and at home. The undercover agent said as much: “I’m firmly convinced that had he come into possession of the right stuff he would have done something.”

TWO CHARGED IN PLAN TO AID TALIBAN

HOUSTON, Texas - An indictment has been brought against a U.S. citizen and a Pakistani in the country on an expired student visa for planning to aid the Taliban, U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.

Kobie Diallo Williams, also known as Abdul Kabeer and Abdul Kabir, 33, a U.S. citizen and Houston resident, and Adnan Babar Mirza, 29, a Pakistani national who overstayed a student visa, are charged with conspiring to train with firearms with a goal to fight with the Taliban against coalition forces in the Middle East and providing approximately $350 in cash to support terrorist groups. Mirza is also charged with three violations of federal firearms law. The four count indictment was returned under seal by a Houston grand jury on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, and unsealed today after the appearance of both men before a U.S. magistrate judge.

"In this post 9/11 era, threats against our international security efforts are taken most seriously," said U.S. Attorney DeGabrielle.

"While these subjects did not operate at a high level of sophistication in comparison with the 9/11 hijackers, the expressed goal was to aid the Taliban by training to carry out jihad against coalition troops in the Middle East," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Roderick Beverly.

Kobie Diallo Williams surrendered himself to members of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) today, Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006. Adnan Babar Mirza, who has been in the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement on related immigration violations, was transferred into the custody of JTTF agents this morning. Both Williams and Mirza have been ordered to remain in federal custody without bond pending further criminal proceedings.

According to allegations in the indictment, Williams and Mirza, a citizen of Pakistan who entered the United States on a student visa on Aug. 15, 2001, allegedly viewed the United States and coalition military forces on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq as invaders and in April 2005 agreed that they should travel to the Middle East to fight with the Taliban to engage in battlefield jihad.

To hone their skills in anticipation for battlefield jihad, the indictment alleges Williams and Mirza agreed to train with firearms at various locations located in Harris and surrounding counties. On at least eight occasions between May 20, 2005, and June 17, 2006, the men engaged in firearms training, and at times in reconnaissance training.

As part of and during the alleged conspiracy, Williams and Mirza are accused of agreeing to offer financial support to Taliban fighters and their families. Federal law prohibits contributions of goods or services to the Taliban, one of several specially designated global terrorist organizations. Williams allegedly provided support - $200 on or about June 28, 2005, and another $150 on May 25, 2006 - intended for Taliban members or their families.

As a student visa holder, Mirza is prohibited from possessing firearms. Furthermore, once his student visa expired on Dec.12, 2005, Mirza's status changed to that of being illegally in the United States. Illegal aliens are also prohibited from possessing firearms. The indictment charges Mirza in three counts of unlawfully possessing firearms during three firearms training sessions occurring in May 2005, March 2006 and May 2006 (Counts Two through Four).

If convicted of the conspiracy charge set forth in Count One, Williams and Mirza face a maximum punishment of five years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000 and three years supervised release. Each of the three firearms alleged against Mirza in Counts Two through Four carry a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000 and three years supervised release, upon conviction.

The investigation resulting in the charges was led by the Houston Division of the FBI and the agency's JTTF with participation by: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Houston Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Sheriff's Offices of San Jacinto and Montgomery Counties. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Shelley J. Hicks and Glenn Cook are prosecuting the case.

An indictment or an information is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until convicted through due process of law.

Judge Cole exonerates Howard, suspects AWB in Oil for Food scandal

It is bad enough that the people in Iraq were made to suffer under this dictator, but to have one of our frinds steal the food out of their mouths?
From 1999 to 2003, AWB executives purportedly authorized $222 million in bogus transport fees to a Jordanian trucking company, Alia Transport, that was partly owned by Saddam's government. Payments to Saddam were illegal under U.N. sanctions.

AWB purportedly inflated the cost of wheat it was charging to the oil-for-food program by as much as $50 per ton to cover the bogus transport fees, which the Iraqi Grain Board demanded as a condition for lucrative grain contracts.

Judge Cole also found that the U.N. knew Iraq was breaching sanctions, but took no steps to stop the practice.

Admittedly it is a company, rather than the government, that may be guilty of this. Maybe we shall never the extent of the damage the UN has caused, but shall we wait until they do much more?

This is another Democrat idiotic plan. Read it, and let me know if you agree.
A Mississippi Democrat in line to become chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee has warned the nation's largest uniform supplier it faces criminal charges if it follows a White House proposal to recheck workers with mismatched Social Security numbers and fire those who cannot resolve the discrepancy in 60 days.

Rep. Bennie Thompson said in a letter to Cintas Corp. it could be charged with "illegal activities in violation of state and federal law" if any of its 32,000 employees are terminated because they gave incorrect Social Security numbers to be hired.

‘TIS THE SEASON...FOR ONLINE SHOPPING
How to Avoid Getting Grinched

11/28/05

Online Shopping GraphicHappy "Cyber Monday!"
We hear the Monday after Thanksgiving is now one of the busiest days—if not the busiest day—of the year for online shopping. That's why some retailers are calling it "Cyber Monday" or even "Black Monday."

And that’s why we’d like to start your online shopping off right with some words to the wise.

Here's our specific advice for shopping safely on the Internet:

  • Do your homework on the web retailer. Make sure you're buying items from a reputable and legitimate company. Don't judge the business by its website. Make sure the site has a physical address and a working phone number. Check consumer websites for information about the company.

  • When using your credit card for purchases, make sure the website is secure. Look for the tiny padlock icon that symbolizes (but doesn’t necessarily guarantee) a higher level of security. Also, check out the site’s security or encryption software.
  • Be very cautious when responding to special offers (especially those that come via unsolicited e-mail) and when dealing with companies or persons outside the country.
  • If you’re participating in an Internet auction, read the fine print. Before you bid, learn as much as you can about how the auction works, what your responsibilities are as a buyer, what the seller’s obligations are, and what actions the website takes if a problem occurs. Learn as much as you can about the seller. And don’t give out your social security number or driver’s license number to the seller.

Also, make sure your computer has a firewall and the latest anti-virus software. And we can’t repeat this enough: don’t open unknown e-mail attachments, including those contained in recent messages that appear to come from the FBI.

What should you do if you think you've been scammed? Go online and file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center run by the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and contact your local police. We also recommend that you file a complaint with the retailer.

John Edwards Has Egg on His Face, Again

As heard on 770 KTTH AM, Seattle, "The Sytman and Boze Show"  former Senator John Edwards gaffed again.  Its beginning to sound like former Senator Edwards may not be as smart as he thinks he is.  I will let you be the judge.

It seems that former Senator Edwards was at a Barnes & Noble promoting his new book.  He started hammering Wal-Marts for not paying employees decent wages.  The Barnes & Noble where Edwards was hawking his book currently pays its employees $7 per hour starting salary.  Wal-Mart pays its employees $7.50 starting salary ($.50 more per hour).  After former Senator Edwards was finished with his obviously poorly researched tirade, he was confronted on his discrepant and asinine comments.  C' est la vie!  What we have is  another classic "John Kerry Moment" in the life a trial lawyer turned politician.  After I heard Sytman and Boze talking about former Senator Edwards' latest gaff, I found the story at at Union Leader. Com.

So, grab yourself a cup of coffee, sit back, and read the latest about the democratic hopeful, former Senator Edwards having a "John Kerry Moment."  Of course most of the mainstream press is not going to carry the story because they are too busy trying to blame the Bush White House for something.

Asked back in January what he thought would be an appropriate minimum wage, Edwards told The New York Times, "My view is it should be $7.50 an hour, and I can make a great argument for it being a lot higher than that."

Seven-fifty an hour? Why, that's what Wal-Mart pays! And without a federal mandate, too.

Unfortunately, people who want to support a company that pays at least $7.50 an hour cannot go to Wal-Mart to buy Edwards' book and then take it over to Barnes & Noble for him to sign it. Wal-Mart doesn't carry it. Wonder why.

Of course, Barnes & Noble is no less virtuous than Wal-Mart because it pays 50 cents an hour less. And Wal-Mart is no less virtuous than other companies that pay more. Both businesses provide useful, productive employment at competitive market rates. That in itself is virtuous.

John Edwards should take the virtuous path and stop his anti-Wal-Mart demagoguery. Anyone can see that it is nothing more than a populist ploy to make him look like a champion of low-income people. But those very people he is trying to help end up saving hundreds of dollars a year by shopping at Wal-Mart. Its efficiencies provide them with low-cost items they might not be able to afford otherwise.  Source: Union Leader. Com - John Edwards' folly: A book signing gone wrong

Folks, I am not sure if former Senator Edwards is capable of being a presidential candidate.  You tell me if he should be.  former Senator Edwards has slipped into gaffing "John Kerry Moments" too often.

Then again, this would provide Rush Limbaugh and political comedians some rich material for their radio shows.

I am not sure if or if not former Senator Edwards sent an volunteer staffer (working for free below the minimum wage) to get a Playstation3 at Wal-mart for his (Edwards') son.  I recall that former Senator Edwards indicted that his son dissed elementary school classmates for shopping at Wal-Mart.  ( Source: Edwards acknowledges staff asked Wal-Mart for Playstation 3)

Now, former Senator John Edwards rassed Wal-marts for paying starting employees MORE THAN, the book vendor, Barnes and Nobles.  Go figure. Does Senator John Edwards take the average Joe Citizen for an idiot?   I hope you liberals take this under advisement.  The liberals have Kerry and Edwards making them look foolish.

For the conservative side of the house, ask your liberal buddies if they are gullible?

Does the DNC Hate Wal-Mart?

It seems odd that both Senators Edwards and Obama are siding with union backed activists regarding Wal-Mart.  The liberal rhetoric seems to be coming increasingly political.

United Food and Commercial Workers union are reaching out for DNC support.  It appears that more Democrats are aligning with the union activists.

Last week the New York Sun reported that Senators Edwards and Obama will address union supporters as the unions launch a six-week campaign targeting Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Wal-Mart urged Obama and Edwards to get to know the company and its employees before making up their minds about the retailer.

"We've found that most of the politicians who are most critical of Wal-Mart are the ones that know us the least," Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar said.

Mr. Obama's office said the Illinois senator "is participating in this call because he believes all workers in America, no matter who they work for, deserve to be paid a living wage and have access to comprehensive health care their families can afford."  Source: NY Sun - Edwards and Obama Battle Against Wal-Mart

The battle between Wal-Mart and its critics has taken on an increasingly political tone since WakeUpWalMart and another union-backed group, Wal-Mart Watch, were formed last year to pressure the retailer for changes including higher wages and better benefits.  These organizations are courting liberal candidates.

Are consumers going to get caught in the big squeeze between Unions and Democrats in their quest for wage control and union representation?

Chad is in a state of emergency

Chad is in a state of emergency due to Sudan's meddling within their borders. The UN is claiming that while this is true, it is also caused by Chadian rebels. Give me a break. I have been covering this, and it is the janjaweed that are terrorifying these people.

Chad could certainly use our logistics help, but they must ask for it. Along with our help, we must demand in return access to Darfur. This way, we could at least help two countries instead of only one.

We would also be helping ourselves, because al Qaida is in the mountains of Sudan to Somalia. We need to slaughter this beast.

Chavez Vows to Beat "Devil"

Courtesy of Stop the ACLU originally posted by Jay and filed at Stop the ACLU under War On Terror, News

Hugo Chavez continues with his insults toward America.

The former soldier and self-styled revolutionary is favored in the polls to beat rival Manuel Rosales after building a solid political base through a social development campaign financed by oil revenues.

Chavez supporters flooded Caracas thoroughfares waving flags and banners, congregating in different parts of the downtown a day after Rosales sympathizers held a similar march to close his campaign in the capital city.

“We are confronting the devil, and we will hit a home run off the devil next Sunday,” said Chavez, who ruffled feathers in October by calling President Bush the devil in remarks at the United Nations.

“On December 3 we’re going to defeat the most powerful empire on earth by knockout,” Chavez said.

Donning red like most of his supporters, Chavez delivered a two-hour speech marked by his signature combination of fiery leftist rhetoric and crowd antics typical of pop music concerts.

Wow! Reuters paints this guy up like a rock star! Many Venezuelans disagree. A picture worth a thousand words.

Seems like the police in Skowhegan, Maine, had a break in the case. CBS Channel 4 News, Boston, reported that two teenage boys were arrested late Saturday night and charged with setting off 2 acid bombs at the local Wal-Mart. (2 Acid Bombs Detonated at Wal-Mart)

Because this story is an Associated Press (AP) news feed, you should go to CBS Channel 4 News Boston to read the AP copyrighted story.

The media reported that apparently the teens parents recognized their kids form a news story and contacted the Skowhegan Police Department.

This may bring a whole new topic of conversation to the table. Should the parents have gone to the police? Do we have any control over our children? What on earth would possess to teens to do such a thing? Is it a problem created by a liberal society? Should this be handled as a Juvenile Detention Issue? Should this be called Domestic Terrorism? It this, "Boys will be Boys?"

Apparently the teens had placed other bombs around town. The details are still sketchy and more will be forth coming. It will be interesting when more information becomes available.

I wonder if taking parental authority away from parents, as activists and left leaning courts have done for the past 10 - 15 years could be helping to cause this phenomena that is striking down our children?

2 acid bombs go off in Maine Wal-Mart

Courtesy of National Terror Alert Response Center: 2 Acid Bombs Set Off In Wal-Mart

The explosion of two homemade bombs inside Wal-Mart Saturday afternoon sent a store full of holiday shoppers scurrying for the exits.

Two acid bombs detonated in two separate aisles as the store was crowded with shoppers around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, said Sgt. Joel Davis, fire investigation supervisor for the State Fire Marshal’s Office. One of the bombs detonated in the pet area. The second was in the store’s toy section, Davis said.

Early reports indicate that three or four people suffered minor injuries, mostly limited to ringing ears caused by the blasts, but last night investigators could still not rule out that someone may have suffered more serious injuries that had not yet been reported.

The store was evacuated following the explosions and by 6:30 p.m. employees who had been waiting in the parking lot were told to go home for the evening.

The store is expected to reopen today, said Dale Brann, store manager.

Two individual have been identified from the stores security cameras, one of whom is seen talking to the store’s greeter, as persons of interest. Davis stopped short of describing the young men in the video as subjects, but the video suggests they might at least have seen something relevant to the investigation.

“We’d at least like to talk to them,” he said.

An acid bomb is most frequently made with household products that are poured into a plastic container, Davis said. The chemicals react to form an acidic substance while simultaneously expanding, causing the plastic to expand to the point of explosion. The formula can be downloaded from the Internet, Davis said, but the ease with which the bombs are built belie their danger. A similar bomb in another part of the state seriously injured a police officer, Davis said. Saturday’s explosion was less destructive.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Davis said. “They’re simple but very dangerous.”

The devices did not appear to be attached to timing devices, Davis said, and there were no notes or messages associated with the bombs.

Fire, police and ambulance crews from Skowhegan were the first to arrive on scene, Davis said. Davis was joined by five other investigators from the fire marshal’s office, in addition to a team from the State Police Bomb Squad. Teams checked the air quality to ensure no dangerous substances had been released into the atmosphere, Davis said. Investigators then conducted an aisle-by-aisle search for other devices and collected evidence.

Investigators and other emergency workers remained at the scene until after 9:30 p.m.

Brann described a chaotic scene with people screaming when the bombs first exploded.

“I was extremely pleased nobody was injured,” he said. “I think everyone in the community did an amazing job.” Source -Kennebec Journal

Bosun's comments: We may have to eventually prepare ourselves for what happens in Israel on almost a daily basis. Although this has not been tied to international terror groups and may have only been directed against Wal-mart, problems may be on the horizon. I am concerned because according to the news article, a similar bomb was detonated in another part of the state and injured a police officer. Folks we have to stand by for the inevitable.

I can only hope that the police solve this domestic terrorism act quickly. This could be a sick teenage prank, union retaliation, or maniac hatred against a store that has done so much for the America consumer. God Bless Wal-marts and the injured customers, and those who were affected by this maniac hatred that persons unknown have inflicted upon our society.

The D. B. Cooper Mystery

Headline Archives: D. B. Cooper

Courtesy of the FBI

A BYTE OUT OF HISTORY
11/24/06

Composite images of D.B. Cooper

On the afternoon of November 24—35 years ago Friday—a non-descript man calling himself Dan Cooper approached the counter of Northwest Orient Airlines in Portland, Oregon. He used cash to buy a one-way ticket on Flight #305, bound for Seattle, Washington. Thus began one of the great unsolved mysteries in FBI history.

Cooper was a quiet man who appeared to be in his mid-forties, wearing a business suit with a black tie and white shirt. He ordered a drink—bourbon and soda—while the flight was waiting to take off. A short time after 3:00 p.m., he handed the stewardess a note indicating that he had a bomb in his briefcase and wanted her to sit with him.

The stunned stewardess did as she was told. Opening a cheap attaché case, Cooper showed her a glimpse of a mass of wires and red colored sticks and demanded that she write down what he told her. Soon, she was walking a new note to the captain of the plane that demanded four parachutes and $200,000 in twenty dollar bills.

When the flight landed in Seattle, the hijacker exchanged the flight’s 36 passengers for the money and parachutes. Cooper kept several crewmembers, and the plane took off again, ordered to set a course for Mexico City.

Somewhere between Seattle and Reno, a little after 8:00 p.m., the hijacker did the incredible: he jumped out of the back of the plane with a parachute and the ransom money. The pilots landed safely, but Cooper had disappeared into the night and his ultimate fate remains a mystery to this day.

The FBI learned of the crime in flight and immediately opened an extensive investigation that lasted many years. Calling it NORJAK, for Northwest hijacking, we interviewed hundreds of people, tracked leads across the nation, and scoured the aircraft for evidence. By the five-year anniversary of the hijacking, we’d considered more than 800 suspects and eliminated all but two dozen from consideration.

One person left on our list, Richard Floyd McCoy is still a favorite suspect among many. We tracked down and arrested McCoy for a similar airplane hijacking and escape by parachute less than five months after Cooper’s flight. Was it a copycat crime…or was Cooper the real McCoy? We will probably never know: McCoy later broke out of jail and died in a shoot-out with FBI agents as they attempted to arrest him.

Or perhaps Cooper didn’t survive his jump from the plane. After all, the parachute he used couldn’t be steered, his clothing and footwear were unsuitable for a rough landing, and he had jumped into a wooded area at night, a dangerous proposition for a seasoned pro—which evidence suggests Cooper was not. This theory was given an added boost in 1980 when a young boy found a rotting package full of $20 bills ($5,800 in all) that matched the ransom money serial numbers.

Where did “D.B.” come from? It was apparently a myth created by the press. We did question a man with the initials “D. B.” but he wasn’t the hijacker.

The daring hijack and disappearance remain an intriguing mystery—for law enforcement and amateur sleuths alike. To read more about the NORJAK investigation, see the files on our Freedom of Information Act website. Fair warning: you might get hooked on the case!

US Citizen Terror Suspect Flees US: Calls FBI to Say He is Gone

According the Seattle Post Intelligencer, a Seattle area Rainier Beach man, who federal agents allege made his barber shop a kind of "anti-American training ground for Muslims" where children were taught "how to shoot and fight the Americans", fled the United States for Somalia.

This man was released from federal custody on plea agreement pre-sentencing release. The man called federal authorities from Somalia to inform them he was not coming in for sentencing. I wish I could have heard how that conversation really went.

Perhaps it went like this

him - "hi, so i decided that i'm just not going to come in to face those terrorism charges"
officer - "...i'm sorry, what?"
him - "yeh. i'm in
somolia"
officer - "...are you serious?"
him - "yeh. but its ok, because i called." (from a Hannity Forum Member)
him : "by the way, tell the judge, 'thanks for my freedom'."

The judge who released the man ordered that he surrender his United States passport after his release. But, of course the man did not comply with the judge's order and fled. "Alleged" Islamos don't give a damn about American laws.

Folks, we are loosing our grip on freedom from terrorism because of liberal politically correct blunders like this. Michael Savage is correct when he says that we are going to be destroyed from within by liberal wackoism.

After the fact, the U.S. Attorney's Office is apparently going to review the practice of allowing people out of custody before they surrender their passport.

The Dumbass Award goes to the US Attorneys, federal courts, and everyone else involved in this travesty of justice.

Write your congressmen and senators about this folks. Don't let this story get buried on page 26 or the mainstream media. This traitor to our country will join other American-Born Al Qaeda Members, such as, another federal fugitive, Adam Gadahn, who aspires to terrorize America and install an Islamic Caliphate from sea to shining sea.

2 Cups of Coffee

Forwarded to me from a good blogger friend, Jerry W.

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.  The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes." The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and

Your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else---the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all

Your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you. "Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Please share this with someone you care about. I JUST DID

Jerry, Thank you for sharing that story with me.  To the readership, I have a good day.

Respectfully,

Violence in Iraq Drops in Weeks after Ramadan

Violence in Iraq Drops in Weeks After Ramadan

Nov. 20, 2006
By Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON – As expected, violence in Iraq has dropped following the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, a coalition spokesman said in Baghdad today.

Army Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said civilian and Iraqi security force casualties were at the lowest levels since the government was formed in May.

So far this month, the civilian casualty count is well below the casualty count in October and below the six-month average. The security force casualties reduced 21 percent over the past four weeks, and are at the lowest level in 25 weeks, he said.

“In Baghdad, there was a 22 percentage drop in casualties related to sectarian violence and executions,” Caldwell said during a televised news conference. “Coalition forces will continue to work closely with the Iraqi government and Iraqi security forces to control the sectarian violence and terrorist attacks.”

But attacks do continue. The more the Iraqi government led by Nouri al-Maliki asserts its authority, the greater the threat from foreign and extremist elements seeking to undermine both stability and reconciliation in Iraq, Caldwell said. “Last week we did see a spike in coalition and civilian casualties,” he said. “Murders remain the gravest threat to civilians.”

A new wrinkle is mortar attacks on markets and mosques, and coalition and Iraqi security forces are watching the situation and taking steps to prevent those, the general said.

He said Operation Together Forward – planned to provide security for the neighborhoods in Baghdad – will continue. Patrolling continues in some neighborhoods, he said, with roughly 95,000 buildings searched, 282 persons detained and 1,900 weapons seized.

In other neighborhoods, the Iraqis have moved into a protect-and-build strategy. “Stability means more than just freedom from fear; it means being able to count on essential services,” Caldwell said. “Consequently, more than $7.5 million have been committed to these projects and essential services.”

Iraqi public servants brave attacks to continue working on power generation, water treatment, trash collection to sewage disposal. He said over the past 11 months local civic leaders and soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division, which just transferred back to Fort Hood, Texas, worked hard in Baghdad to make progress in local improvement projects. “During that time, 146 water and sewage projects came on line, (along with) 140 educational projects, 57 medical and public health projects and 37 agricultural projects,” Caldwell said.

The water and sewage projects undertaken through this partnership include the completion of 19 water treatment plants, six compact water delivery systems, 13 sewage pumping stations and the replacement of more than 25 kilometers of pipe. The 140 education projects included upgrading 111 school facilities that serve more than 310,000 elementary students. The 57 Baghdad medical projects include the renovation of 21 hospitals and clinics and building and opening six new clinics for the citizens of Baghdad.

“There is a committed effort to hire local Iraqi firms and workers,” the general said. “These projects alone have provided over 23,000 jobs at the peak employment period.”

Caldwell said there will be more transfers of authority to the Iraqis as the security forces become more capable. He used an operation in Diyala province as an example of the progress the Iraqi army is making. On Nov. 13, the Iraqis launched a joint operation to seize five major weapons caches. The Iraqi forces faced improvised explosive devices and numerous small-arms exchanges with enemy forces. The soldiers killed somewhere between 25 and 40 enemy fighters and detained another 23.
The raid resulted in taking hundreds of explosive rounds capable of being used in car and roadside bombs, and 300,000 rounds of small-arms ammunition. “This is potentially hundreds of car bombs that will never be built or detonated in Iraqi markets,” Caldwell said. “This is 12,000 sniper rounds that will not be aimed at security forces.”

Caldwell said it is impossible to estimate the number of attacks these raids prevented, “but it was significant.”

“Iraq must have a security force that is competent, but also enjoys the confidence of its people,” he said. The forces will continue to enforce the rule of law and free the country from the threat of militias. He said Iraqi confidence in the police is slowly rising, but will require continued reform.

The forces continue to combat sectarian violence, most of which, occurs within a 30-mile radius around Baghdad. Forces launched 58 missions against death squads that netted 184 cell members and eight cell leaders.
The coalition and Iraqis continue to attack al Qaeda in Iraq. The forces launched 92 focused operations that killed 48 terrorists and detained 286, Caldwell said.

The general also told reporters that U.S. forces remain committed to finding Army Spc. Ahmed Kusay Altaie, a soldier kidnapped Oct. 23. More than 3,000 coalition and Iraqi security forces are looking for him. “We will never stop looking for our servicemembers,” Caldwell said. “Everyone must know that we will continue our intensive efforts to locate Specialist Altaie.”

Caldwell said that all people want to see a unified, secure and prosperous Iraq, “but it will take time.”

“The people in Iraq are showing tremendous perseverance in fighting these foreign influences that seek to destroy their goal of a unified Iraq,” he said.

Iraqi Police, SF nab Terror Leaders

By American Forces Press Service

BAGHDAD — Iraqi Special Forces Soldiers and Police nabbed terror-cell leaders and members in raids in Baghdad over the last two days, U.S. officials reported.

Coalition forces have also killed 11 insurgents in three related incidents in Ramadi. In an incident near Haswah Tuesday, three insurgents were observed emplacing an improvised explosive device. Soldiers fired on the insurgents, killing two.

In a raid Monday in the same area, special Iraqi Police Forces with Coalition advisers captured six insurgents believed to be responsible for car-bomb attacks against Iraqi civilians and Security Forces. The insurgents are also allegedly responsible for criminal activities including extortion, murder, kidnapping and car theft in the Haswah and Baghdad areas. The insurgents also help finance other insurgent cells.

Monday evening, Coalition Forces engaged a small number of insurgents emplacing an improvised explosive device. Two insurgents died in the engagement.  | Full Story |

More War Stories that Won't get a Log of Play

Courtesy of Big Dog's Weblog.  Thank you for your service Big Dog!!

The military medical folks have done an outstanding job in the war on terror in Iraq. I say that with a bit of bias, since I was in charge of medical folks in the Army. They treat everyone who is injured regardless of status and they often save lives that years ago would have been lost. We hardly hear about the job they are doing, especially the job they do taking care of civilians.

Sometimes they pick up civilians. Lt. Col. Sean Killeen, the unit’s commander, told of a recent car accident in which an infant died, but a woman and her 9- and 12-year-old children were saved.

“Winning hearts and minds by saving lives,” Killeen said. He spoke of how one of his medics kissed the head of the dying baby. “That’s a form of communication that goes on, no matter what you think of the war.” [my emphasis] Stars and Stripes

The compassion that our troops show is beyond anything that the enemy is capable of and because of this, you will hardly see it or read about it. That in and of itself is a particularly sad reality.

Abe seeks strong Japanese defense

This is a very interesting development, albeit I was wondering what took them so long. The Prime Minister of Japan has plans to try to change their constitution so that Japan may once again defend herself. This is going to be interesting to watch. How much you want to bet they start getting protested, but no one will speak an evil word about North Korea? Yeah, that's what I thought.

You may read the article here. If the article is no longer there, you may read it here. Have a nice day.

Coulter's Latest Commentary Rips Media over Pelosi Fawning

In Ann Coulter's latest column, that was posted at WorldNetDaily, the take-no-prisoners commentator rips into the media for their ceaseless gushing over Rep. Nancy Pelosi becoming the first-ever woman speaker of the House.  Coulter correctly points out that President Bush has been appointing women and minorities to high posts for years.  But then again, the Dems have been shaky with accepting the truth.

Writes Coulter: "The media yawned when Condoleezza Rice became the first black woman secretary of state (and when Lincoln Chaffee became the first developmentally disabled senator)."

On the Bush Cabinet, Coulter humorfully points out, "The whole place has been lousy with women since the first Bush term, including Gale Ann Norton, secretary of the interior, Ann Veneman, secretary of agriculture, and Margaret Spellings, secretary of education. For a while there, it looked as if Bush might become the first president whose entire Cabinet's menstrual cycles were synchronized."

The no policy platform democrats are successfully bringing back a cut-and-run national security strategy, tax-and-spend domestic policy and a no-enforcement immigration policy, and is in their minds apparently ushering in a return to feminist milestones.
