The President is taking a break from the campaign trail today, but the fallout surrounding the verbal volleys between Bush and Senator John Kerry isn't over.
It all started with a comment made by Kerry earlier in the week.
"You know, education, if you make the most of it and study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart you can do well, if you don't you can get stuck in Iraq," Kerry said.
He later called it a "botched joke" about the President, but the White House and Republicans took his remarks as a slam on American troops.
"The members of the United States military are plenty smart and they are plenty brave and the Senator from Massachusetts owes them an apology," said Bush.
All of sudden, the campaign for the 2006 midterm election looks a lot like the 2004-presidential election.
And now some Democratic candidates want to distance themselves from Kerry and his radioactive remarks.
At least three scheduled Kerry campaign appearances across the country have been sacked.
The question now is whether this will be just a distraction or potentially a disruption at the polls in an already contentious campaign season.
