I have written about this topic before, but it continues to rear its ugly head. This is why I must implore of you again to pay attention.
Censorship is a word we have such an adversion to that even the mere mention of it makes our skin crawl, our breath shorten, our blood boil and maybe even we catch a glimmery bead of sweat on our brow.
Yet it continues. We know of it happening in China, Iran, India, Syria, and many other oppressed countries. Many people have been imprisoned just for writing on their personal blogs.
This is outrageous! We must do all that we can to help all people across this globe. Yahoo and Google need to be condemned. They freely work with foreign governments just to make a dollar. (I found good news while doing the searches: US gearing up to tackle Web censorship! They are going after Yahoo and Google. A must read.)
This is what we need to do: If at all possible, do not use Yahoo or Google. I understand that many people have Yahoo e-mail accounts, but have you considered this search: "email account" or "free"? I didn't find anything I can use so if you do, please e-mail me!
The next step is to call President Bush and let him know you do not want any foreign aid going to India, Iran, Egypt, or China until they stop the censorship of its citizens.
You can also call your Senators and Congressperson toll free at 888-355-3588, and tell them the same. After all, it is they that hold the purse strings! Thank you, and have a great day.
Update: I would like to thank Vinnie for this article: Another cyberdissident imprisoned because of data provided by Yahoo. Tim Richardson contributed another of the Chinese articles. He works for the Register.
Sanam contributed Filtering office launched by IT Ministry. There are many articles on Iran: This is the search you may use to find them.
India seems to have made it to the papers already! No way you can block blogs! Even the ABC News Online wrote an article today about India's predicament: India bans access to blogs. There are also many more links in this search.
