This appears to be a slight victory for Bin Laden and Al-Zawahiri. Disclaimer: The actual guilt or innocence of the suspects have to been addressed or implied here. One must analyze what the judge has said and done according the news article that appeared in today's Boston Herald:
Several of the defendants did confess to having been in Iraq to fight U.S. troops there and had Iraqi stamps on their passport, the judge said. "But this does not violate (Yemeni) law," the judge said.It appears that it is going to get worse before it gets better. Sounds like Yemen has its own version of the ACLU and radicalized “leftism.” The radicalized ideology of this flavor of religion of peace is scary...
"Islamic Sharia law permits jihad against occupiers," he said.
Cries of "Allahu akbar"(God is great) rose from behind the bars where the defendants stood, clad in blue prison uniforms. Families received the verdict with cheers and claps. Some burst into tears.
"This (verdict) is a change for the judiciary in Yemen," said Ali al-Kurdi, one of the defendants. "It is fair, something unusual." ... Link to the Boston Herald news article.
