Chris Wallace: Rethink Saddam - Osama connection

Newsmax.com -
Fox News Host, Chris Wallace, says the press needs to rethink claims that there was no operational link between Iraq and al Qaeda in light of new Iraqi intelligence documents released of a detailed February 1995 meeting between bin Laden and senior agents of Saddam's Mukhabarrat...al Qaeda chief asked for help with "joint operations" against the U.S. Read the rest of the Story
Following the release of document also reported by, ABC News [1], one of our more left leaning media hosts at MSNBC, Chris Matthews, scoffed at the idea and acted like he had not heard about the document in question. Chris Matthews insinuated that the United States Government has not been truthful and has mislead the public in the past.
[1]Editors note from ABC news: This document is handwritten and has no official seal. Although contacts between bin Laden and the Iraqis have been reported in the 9/11 Commission report and elsewhere (e.g., the 9/11 report states "Bin Laden himself met with a senior Iraqi intelligence officer in Khartoum in late 1994 or early 1995) this document indicates the contacts were approved personally by Saddam Hussein. "There may well be--and probably will be--additional intelligence coming in from interrogations and from analysis of captured records and so forth which will fill out the intelligence picture. This is not phrased as--nor meant to be--the definitive word on Iraqi Intelligence activities."

I suspect, the Dems didn't know squat, and I base that on two things:
1) Even Republicans who should be in the know were not making claims based on these docs-it was a web driven, pajamahadeen push to get them translated and released
2) If you look at the leftist web sites and media outlets, they have had ZERO interest in looking at the subject unless it was aimed at attacking GWB and the basis for the war rather than in support of the war they promoted, authorized, and then opposed.

This adds to the NO WAY! factor and builds up the denial in many who oppose the war-bearing in mind that most of the opposition to the war is not opposition to the war as much as it is opposition to anything GWB did/does.

Sadly, this build up of denial makes it even tougher to demonstrate their long sought "smoking gun" Today, I seriously doubt that anything could ever meet that standard; a standard of opening minds closed by partisan disenfranchaisement, blindness, and deliberate spin/lies from those seeking power at any price...even the deliberate division of a nation at war.

Unfortunately, I think that sam pender has it right, no matter what is found the anti-Bush crowd will not believe. They've got too much invested in Bush Lied!

I stopped paying attention to Chris Matthews after his terrible treatment of Michelle Malkin and Zell Miller in 2004.
